SUBJECT: AMENDMENT TO THE LONG RANGE CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS
(CIP BUDGET 2001-2002) TO COMPLETE THE MEMORIAL PARK AND VETERAN'S
FREEDOM PARK PLAY EQUIPMENT REPLACEMENT PROJECTS
RECOMMENDATION:
It is recommended that City Council approve an amendment to the Capital Improvement Projects
(CIP) budget by approving a $1,127.00 transfer from the Quimby Fund to the Memorial Park and
Veteran's Freedom Park play equipment replacement projects (projects 420001 and project
42000J).
BACKGROUND:
The Memorial Park and Veteran's Freedom Park play equipment projects were completed on
March 30, 2002. These projects were cooperative in nature with the Parks Division doing the
concrete play area replacement, Pacific Design-Little Tike providing the play equipment and
installation and our new Parks Division L.A. Works crew doing the demolition of the old
equipment, installing sand and assisting with site clean-up.
As a requirement of the L.A. County Prop A Grant funding these projects, a portion of the Grant
funds were required to be expended on at-risk youth employment. The use of our L.A. Works
crew on these projects met that requirement. The L.A. Works crew worked a total of two weeks
on each project for a total of$2,800.00 in cost. This expenditure met our at-risk youth target cost
but put us $1,127.00 over budget on the projects.
FISCAL IMPACT:
The Memorial Park and Veteran's Freedom Park play equipment replacement projects were
budgeted for a combined total of $82,500.00. The combined completion cost on the projects
was $83,627.00. The Quimby Fund currently has a balance of $127,490.00. A fund transfer of
$1,127.00 would leave the Quimby Fund at a final balance of $126,363.00.
