SUBJECT: INSTALLATION OF TWO-WAY STOP SIGNS ON TWINTREE AT HALTERN
RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council approve installation of two-way stop signs on Twintree
Avenue at Haltern Street and authorize Public Works to install the signs.
BACKGROUND
Staff received a request for stop signs on Twintree Avenue at Haltern Street from area residents,
who complained about lack of proper vision at the intersection. In response, staff examined the
intersection.
In accordance with the nationally accepted procedures adopted by the State of California, a
"warrant" study is required for the placement of stop signs. The requested signs may be posted
where one or more of the following conditions exist:
1. Intersection of a less important road with a main road where application of the normal
right-of-way rule is unduly hazardous.
2. Street entering a through highway or street.
3. Unsignalized intersection in a signalized area.
Findings
In examining the subject intersection, staff determined that there are sight distance restrictions
(visual obstructions) for the motorists and warrant number for stop signs is satisfied.
FISCAL IMPACT
There is a minimal fiscal impact, about $300 in sign and paint costs.
