The purchase and installation will be awarded to Little Tike Commercial Play Systems, represented by Pacific Design Concepts of Huntington Beach, California. The piggyback purchase allows us a 28% discount at a cost of $79,995. The piggyback is allowed through an agreement with the City of Los Angeles purchase order with Little Tike Commercial Play Systems. BACKGROUND: On November 14, 2002, 20 third grade park planners from Henry Dalton Elementary School participated in a park -planning workshop at Pioneer Park. During the workshop the park planners were asked to create a vision for a new play structure at Pioneer Park. The goal was to create a play structure that followed the "theme" of the park. Different ideas came forth and a "fort" theme was a top selection. The children/student planners drew out their ideas and all had a great time. Little Tike Commercial Systems is one of the few "theme" play structure manufacturers and the only manufacturer of a log fort structure. Little Tike play structures are currently in use at Memorial Park and Veteran's Park and are enjoyed by park visitors. These structures and rubber play surface are durable and are holding up very well. The "western fort" themed play structure fits the Pioneer Park theme perfectly and will be a valued park amenity for years to come. The goal of the student planners and the office of Park Planning and Development are to make each of our Azusa parks a unique experience and this play structure will help accomplish that goal at Pioneer Park. FISCAL IMPACT: The project is approved through the 2002-03 Capital Improvement Budget for $246,000 in improvements for Pioneer Park. $80,000 has been allocated to replace the existing play structure. The play structure is discounted 28% and with removal of the existing play structure, installation of the new structure and swing and installation of 737 square feet of rubber play surface the "piggy back" price is $79,995. The funding for this project is from the Mountain Cove CFD fund. /dls 03-037
