HomeMy WebLinkAboutI-5 Staff Report - Award Construction Contract To Teichert EnergyTO: CONSENT CALENDAR HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE AZUSA UTILITY BOARD FROM: MANNY ROBLEDO, DIRECTOR OF UTILITIES DATE: SUBJECT: OCTOBER 19, 2020 AWARD BID CONTRACT TO TEICHERT ENERGY & UTILITIES GROUP INC FOR FURNISHING AND INSTALLING UNDERGROUND ELECTRIC SUBSTRUCTURES ALONG WEST GLADSTONE STREET & SOUTH MOTOR AVENUE IN ACCORDANCE WITH PLAN AND SPECIFICATION LD2020-5. BACKGROUND: On July 20, 2020, the Utility Board approved the plan and drawing for project LD2020-5, and authorized City Clerk’s office to advertise this project to solicit for formal bids (Consent item I-2). On September 23, 2020, City Clerk’s office opened and announced the results of seven received bids. Staff has evaluated all the bids and determined that the bid submitted by Teichert Energy & Utilities Group, Inc. (Teichert) is the lowest responsible bid. Teichert’s bid is in substantial conformance to the plans and specifications. The proposed action would award a construction contract Project LD2020-5 to Teichert. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Utility Board to take the following actions: 1)Approve the award of a construction contract for Project LD2020-5 to Teichert Energy & Utilities Group, Inc. in an amount not-to-exceed $749,764.76; and 2) Authorize the Mayor to execute the Contract in a form acceptable to the City Attorney. I-5 APPROVED UTILITY BOARD 10/19/2020 Special Meeting Award Teichert Energy & Utilities Group, Inc Contract Project LD2020-5 October 19, 2020 Page 2 ANALYSIS: Soon after Utility Board’s approval, On August 14, 2020, City Clerk’s Office Advertised to solicit for bids for this project on the San Gabriel Valley Tribune. On September 2, 2020, Staff held a Mandatory Job Walk at the Azusa Light Water Conference Room to discuss the scope of work and project requirements of the bid document with prospective bidders. The scope of works consists of furnishing and installing underground substructures such as conduits, vaults, and concrete pads. On September 23, 2020, seven received bids were opened and publically announced at the City Clerk’s Office. The bid results are tabulated below.
