The joint public hearing is requested for June 30, 2003 at 6:30 p.m. in the city council chambers. BACKGROUND California Redevelopment Law typically requires that separate public hearings be conducted by the redevelopment agency and the City Council prior to approval of an amended redevelopment plan, and implementation plan. The implementation plan is a document that identifies the specific projects and programs that a redevelopment agency will use to carry out the goals and objectives of the redevelopment plan. State lawmakers recognize that some City Councils also act as the Board of the Redevelopment Agency and that separate public hearings are redundant in such situations. California Redevelopment Law provides an alternative method that allows both public bodies to conduct a joint public hearing to provide for a more efficient and timely process. To exercise this method both bodies must adopt resolutions that acknowledge each bodies consent to conduct a joint public hearing. FICAL IMPACT This action has been budgeted as part of the redevelopment plan amendment effort. The proposed redevelopment plan amendment, however, will provide the Agency with the ability to obtain property tax increment revenues in the future.
