HomeMy WebLinkAboutF-6 Staff Report - CREI Grant 20-21CONSENT ITEM F-6 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: ANN GRAF, DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND LIBRARY SERVICES DATE: APRIL 19, 2021 SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FROM CALIFORNIA STATE LIBRARY FOR THE CALIFORNIA LIBRARIES CULTIVATING RACIAL EQUITY AND INCLUSION INITIATIVE BACKGROUND: The Azusa City Library has been awarded a grant in the amount of $5,000 from California State Library. This action accepts this grant award and approves a corresponding budget amendment to incorporate the grant funds into the current fiscal year budget. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions: 1)Accept the grant award from California State Library; and 2)Approve necessary budget amendments and adjust the current fiscal year budget accordingly. ANALYSIS: The Library is the recipient of the grant to support Libraries Cultivating Racial Equity and Inclusion Initiative (CREI). This grant supports a second year of training for staff with the broad goal to catalyze a statewide network of libraries and library staff committed to racial equity and inclusion for all, to share information; deepen conversations; and, take actions to advance racial equity in library service delivery and the communities that we serve. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with the recommended actions; this grant will support special programs and staff training. Upon Council acceptance of the grant, Finance staff will amend the FY20-21 budget consistent with the grant award amount.
