The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular
session at the above time and place.,
Mayor Memmesheimer called the meeting to order and led Call to Order
in the salute to the flag.
Invocation was given by the Rev. H. M. Sorweide of the Invocation
Church of the Nazarene

Market project, for vacation of alley between Azusa and
San Gabriel Avenues, south from 9th Street., retaining
easement rights, etc.
Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio
and unanimously carried that the City Attorney prepare
Resolution of Intention to vacate alley from 9th Street
to its terminus at Community Garage and Standard Oil
property, and that all of the Easements shall be retained

Courts; also a letter to be sent to the League of Calif-
ornia Cities in Berkeley and ask if they wish to take
any action on behalf of all cities.

' A question was presented regarding the regular meeting

that the regular meeting scheduled for 10/17/66 shall be

that the City Attorney prepare the necessary Resolution.

Three communications were received from the Azusa City
Employees Association.
The first communication requested that Council grant a
leave of absence with pay for two representatives of

A request was received from the Azusa Postmaster for use
City -owned folding chairs, podium and loudspeaker system,
for dedication ceremonies, 2 P.M., Saturday, 10/15/66.
Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio
and unanimously carried that folding chairs be available
on a pick-up and delivery basis by Post Office Personnel
and equipment, and that the public.works department be
authorized to install, operate and remove the loudspeaker
system and podium, on the grounds that this event is
promotional to the City.

A request was submitted kom Joslyn Pacific Co. for payment
of $235.20 in excess of their bid price for furnishing and
erecting 32 street light standards with luminaires.
Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Solem
and unanimously carried to accept the Mayor's recommen-
dation that the Administrator write to Joslyn Pacific
U Company advising Council denied their request as their
Q quotation constitutes a firm contract and was clearly
written as to furnishing photo -electric controls.
The City Administrator submitted a recommendation regard-
ing the purchase of new offset printing equipment.

Moved by Councilman Rubio, seconded by Councilman Cooney amount of
and unanimously carried to rescind 8/1/66 Council action re: $3,395•
bid call on purchase of rebuilt offset duplicator and to
' waive bidding procedures under the Municipal Code, finding
it impracticable, useless and uneconomical to follow such
procedures and that public welfare would be promoted by
dispensing with same.
Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio
and unanimously carried to authorize a purchase order for
$3,395. to A.B. Dick for Model 360, including $730.42
trade-in.
The City Administrator and City Attorney gave a verbal
report pertaining to employment of Teen Post Members on
a part-time basis.
Moved by Councilman Rubio, seconded by Councilman Cooney
and unanimously carried to authorize the Administrator
to investigate Compensation and Liability Insurance phase
re: employment of these youths, with report to Council
before further procedure.
A Notice was submitted by the Police and Fire Association
of the appointment of Ray W. Knoll, and Ray Roth as
representatives to the Study Committee.
Mayor Memmesheimer suggested that Chairman Bashore be
informed of these appointment to the Committee.

A request was given by Bob Strosser of the VFW Post #8070 Req.by VFW Post
for delay in meeting requirements R. S & T of Precise #8070 for immed.
Plan for their. new building at 250 E. 1st Street and occupancy
that immediate occupancy be granted. granted
Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio
and unanimously carried that the VFW Post #8070 be
granted immediate occupancy of their new building.,
subject to approval of the Building Inspector; that
their interior planting be completed within 30 days
after paving of parking lot, and that tree planting
be completed within 30 days after work to be done by
the State; and in the event these requirements are not
met, that occupancy permit will be revoked.

and unanimously carried that the City Clerk direct a letter
to the County Sanitation District advising City has no
objection, if all boundaries of this area lie within the
Cities of Azusa or Duarte, or object if any portion lies
within the County and that the Engineering Department
check legal description for this information.
The City Attorney submitted a copy of letter and Resolu-
tion addressed to USGVMWD from City of Sierra Madre re:
their investigating steps preliminary to annexation to
MWD and detachment from SGVMWD.
Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Solem
' and unanimously carried that the Administrator confer
with the City Attorney and write to the City of Sierra
Madre to inquire motivation and reasoning for their action.
The resignation was received from Officer R. Nelson,
effective 9/28/66 and that his name remain on the
eligibility list.
Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Rubio
and unanimously carried that the resignation be accepted,
and that his name remain on the eligibility list.
