Mayor Pro Tem Cooney called the meeting to order and led Call to Order in the salute to the flag. Invocation was given by Rev. Sheldon Jackson, Associate Invocation Minister, Azusa Friends Church. Present at Roll Call: Councilmen: Rubio, Solem, McLees, Roll Call Cooney. Also Present: City Attorney Williams, City Administrator Foxworthy, Planning Commission Secretary Smith, City Clerk Miller. There being no corrections or additions, the Council Appvl Minutes Actions of 7-17-67 stand approved as written. Councilman McLees presented service award pin to Miss T.L. 5 yr pin -Johnson Johnson, Librarian - 5 year pin. Librarian The hour of 7:30 PM being the time set aside for the Pub.Hrg. H. Fry Public Hearing on appeal from denial by Planning Commisssion sere, station Resolution No. 675, of Conditional Use Permit to allow CUP construction of gasoline service station at 101 N. Azusa Ave., (Case C-72 - Harold'Fry), the Mayor declared the hearing open. Stanley Tract, 605 W. Olympic in Los Angeles presented argument in favor. Stated that increasing service stations in Los Angeles, that are company operated thereby being able to control operation. Freeway causing change in character in area and service stations oriented to Freeway. Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman Rubio and unanimously carried that Hearing be closed and that action be postponed to 8-21-67 meeting with Planning Department to submit a written list of suggested conditions in event of approval of Conditional Use Permit. Request by National Communications, Inc., for 21 year 21 year Franchis franchise (on mileage basis) to install communication Natl Comm. cables (aerial and buried conduits), which was continued from 7-17-67 meeting was presented to Council. Moved by Councilman Rubio, seconded by Councilman Solem and unanimously carried to continue to 8-21-67_meeting. The City Clerk presented the Annual Report from the Chamber Annual Report of Commerce. Cham.of Commerce Moved by Councilman McLees, seconded by Councilman Solem and unanimously carried to receive and file. The City Clekk presented a communication from the City of Comm. frm Ctyof Duarte together with a Resolution and request for Azusa's Duarte re:includ cooperation urging Division of Highways and Bureau of ing Rte 243 beta Public Roads to include Route 243 between the San Bernar- the S.Bernardinc dino and Foothill Freeways I on the Interstate System. & Foothill Fwys. on the Interstat Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman McLees System and unanimously carried to refer to City Engineer for report and recommendation for the 8-21-67 meeting. 1426 1 1 1 CITY HALL AZUSA, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, AUGUST 7, 1967 Page 2 City's assessment on Aspan Avenue, 1911 Act, in the Assessment 1911 amount of $891.83 was received, to be paid by 8-28-67. Act Moved by Councilman Rubio, Seconded by Councilman McLees and unanimously carried by roll call to authorize payment. Communication was received from the County of Los;Angeles Watershed Comm. for the need to appoint a representative from City Council representative to the Los Angeles County Watershed Commission, due to the death of Mayor Memmesheimer. Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman Rubio and unanimously carried to refer communication to City Administrator for investigation and report on 8-21-67 meeting. Suggestion of names for Council appointment was discussed. Names for Counci appointment Moved by Mayor Cooney, seconded by Councilman McLees and unanimously carried that consideration of appointment of new Council member be placed on 8-21-67 Agenda, when additional names may be submitted. Names now submitted are: A. Ortuno, Robert Snyder, R. Wilkinson, Ira Calvert, and Eugene Osko. Councilman Rubio suggested that any resident could send a letter to Council, submitting names for consideration, giving qualifications. A communication was received from Mrs. Venus N. Demos, President, City of Hope Auxiliary, requesting waiver of dance fee for dance to be held as a fund raising event on August 26, 1967. Waiver of dance fee for City of Hope Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman Rubio and ' unanimously carried to waive the $10.00 dance fee, however, $25.00 clean-up fee (refundable) must be paid prior to dance. Discussion was held regarding the annexation of Azusa Disc. re: Annex. Pacific College to the City of Azusa. It was viewed Az.Pac.Coll to as advantageous to the City. City Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman McLees and unanimously carried that City Administrator be authorized to send letter to Dr. Cornelius Haggard of Azusa Pacific College advising City's interest in the annexation and that information and assitance would be given at their request, also any other information relative to the annexation be presented to Council at 8-21-67 meeting. The City Clerk read in full a Resolution authorizing Res. #5282 payment of warrants by the City. Claims & Demands Councilman Rubio offered the Resolution entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ALLOWING CERTAIN CLAIMS AND DEMANDS AND SPECIFYING THE FUNDS OUT OF WHICH THE SAME ARE TO BE PAID.
