A. PUBLIC PARTICIPATION
Persons who wish to speak during the Public Participation portion of the Agenda, will be acknowledge by
the chair. When called, each person may address any item on or off the agenda during the public
participation. The commission cannot directly answer any question from the speaker.
Persons/group shall be allowed to speak without interruption up to five (5) minutes maximum time, subject
to compliance with applicable meeting rules. Public participation will be limited to sixty(60) minutes time.

SUBJECT: ONE BOOK ONE AZUSA 2015 SPONSORHIP
RECOMMENDATION
Commissioner Diana Williams recommends that the Human Relations Commission (HRC)
donates $100 to the One Book One Azusa 2015 program hosted by the Azusa City Library.
BACKGROUND
The One Book One Azusa is a community reading program which strives to build a sense of
community and promote literacy by creating a dialogue. The book for this year's program will be
Enrique's Journey written by Sonia Nazario. It documents a young boy's journey from Honduras
to the United States to find his mother. The novel is a Pulitzer Prize winner.
The HRC was invited as a sponsor for the One Book One Azusa Program. Last year the HRC
contributed $200.

SUBJECT: REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL FUNDS FOR CAFÉ CON LECHE 2015
RECOMMENDATION
Café con Leche ad hoc committee recommends that the Human Relations Commission (HRC)
provides an additional $600 to the Café con Leche budget to cover additional costs.
BACKGROUND
Café con Leche began as a program dedicated to young girls and their mothers with the purpose
of touching their lives by inviting guest speakers to share their inspiring educational journeys.
It's a program designed for students who have social, economic or cultural barriers that are
preventing them from achieving a brighter future.
The program is designed to inspire and encourage young girls and their parents, guardians or
mentors through the participation in the program in efforts of giving them hope for a better and
bigger future.
Café con Leche 2015 is hosting 30 young girls and their parent, guardian or mentor to participate
in the program that will include inspirational segments on education, health and well being.
Café con Leche program currently has a budge of$500.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the posted regular meeting of the
Human Relations Commission is being CANCELLED.
Said meeting was to be held in Light & Water Department, 729 N. Azusa
Avenue on Thursday, April 2, 2015 at 7:00 p.m. l st floor conference room.
