The Flag Salute was led by Mayor Cooney. Approval of minutes of adjourned meeting of 7/31/67 and Appvl. of Min. Council Actions of 10/2/67. There being no corrections or 7/31/67 & Counci additions, Minutes of Adjourned Meeting of 7/31/67 and Actions 10/2/67 Council Actions of 10/2/67 stand approved as written. Service awards to employees: Arthur Brown, Park Foreman; Service Awards Police Sgt. Larry Trujillo; Fire Engr. Raymond Knoll (all 10 -year awards). City Clerk stated for the record that Waivers of Notice of adjourned regular meeting to 10/23/67, which are signed by all Council members, are on file. Request by Police Chief for approval of specs for one additional Police unit (Pontiac Catalina, 4 -door sedan) budgeted item - and authorizing quotations for purchase. Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman Rubio and unanimously carried to approve specifications. Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman Mc Lees and unanimously carried to waive bidding procedures under Municipal Code, finding it impracticable, useless and uneconomical to follow such procedures, and that public welfare would be promoted by dispensing with the same. Councilman Rubio -requested permission to attend 1st Req. permission annual conference of Town Affiliation Assn. of U.S., to attend Town Inc., to be held at Los Angeles, 11/30-12/2, with Affiliation Mtg. registration fee of $25. Moved by Councilman Mc Lees, seconded by Councilman Permission Calvert and unanimously carried to approve request, with granted registration fee and other accountable expenses not to exceed $100. Councilman Calvert reported he attended his first meeting Calvert rpt. of of the Watershed Commission, where they discussed the Watershed Comm. excellent job done in preserving life and property mtg. during the recent fires. City Administrator discussed the annual Economy Run Economy Run during the early part of the Spring, which had to be postponed last year in Azusa due to lack of entrants from City's High Schools. The Auto Club has suggested the City consider alignment with cities of Glendora, Covina and West Covina and would like to know if City is interested in participating with the three other cities in an Economy Run. Moved by Councilman Mc Lees, seconded by Councilman Solem and unanimously carried that Council go on record as favoring this proposal and await further developments. Councilman Rubio mentioned the :need for bus transpor- Transportation tation to Los Angeles Airport and suggested City request to L.A. airport addition of a pick-up point in Azusa; present pick-ups cover West Covina, Pasadena and Monrovia, which is in- convenient for Azusa residents. City Administrator said he would write to Airportransit and request their consideration of providing City with this service.
