NOTICE TO THE PUBLIC
Copies of staff reports or other written documentation relating to each item of business referred to on the
Agenda are on file in the Office of the City Clerk and are available for public inspection at the City Library.
Persons who wish to speak during the Public Participation portion of the Agenda, shall fill out a card
requesting to speak and shall submit it to the City Clerk prior to the start of the City Council meeting.
When called, each person may address any item on or off the agenda during the public participation.

SUBJ: DISCUSSION OF COMMISSION APPOINTEE VACANCY
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Human Relations Commission (HRC) discuss and vote on how to
proceed with Commission appointee vacancy.
BACKGROUND
As stated in the HRC Guidelines Article III Section 2b, "One member shall be a "Commission
appointee" selected by a majority vote of the eight appointees." This position has typically been
given to a faculty/staff person at Azusa Pacific University and has been open since January 2013.

SUBJ: DISCUSSION OF EVENT CALENDAR DUE TO CHANGE IN STAFF
HOURS
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Human Relations Commission (HRC) discuss and vote on adjusting
dates for upcoming events due to a cut in staff hours.
BACKGROUND
Due to a changes made in the budget to internship hours, a discussion needs to be had on what
yearly HRC events can be done. The HRC has increased in the number of annual events it puts
on. Intern hours will be limited.

SUBJ: APPOINTMENT OF SPIRIT CHAIR
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Human Relations Commission (HRC) appoint a new Spirit Chair.
BACKGROUND
A new Spirit Chair needs to be appointed for the Spirit Ad hoc committee. This person will
work with Martin Equalibria from the DOJ and students from the Lead in Harmony 2013
conference to bring the Spirit curriculum into AUSD.

SUBJ: VOTE ON POSSIBLE HANDS ACROSS AZUSA 2014 DATE CHANGE
RECOMMENDATION
Staff recommends that the Human Relations Commission (HRC) discuss and vote on changing
the date for the 2014 Hands Across Azusa.
BACKGROUND
The annual Hands Across Azusa event is typically on the Sunday before Martin Luther King Jr.
Day. This year's is scheduled for January 20, 2014. Because of scheduling issues and the desire
to get a larger audience/attendance, the HRC would like to discuss moving the date.
FISACAL IMPACT:
None.
