The City Council of the City of Azusa met in an adjourned regular meeting at the above time and place. The Mayor called the meeting to order. Call to Order Present at Roll Call: Councilmen: Rubio, Cooney, Calver, Roll Call Solem Absent at Roll Call: Councilmen: Decker The purpose of the meeting was to hear a report by the Rept.of Down - Downtown Study Committee and consider the request to move town Study the site of the proposed police facilities more northerly Comm.Re:Moving to allow through access to a possible parking area in the Prop.Police same block. B1dg.Northerly Councilman Rubio, Chairman of the Downtown Study Committee Presentation presented the above request. by Cnclm.Rubio John Abdelnour spoke regarding his proposal to establish a Explanation parking lot, assessment district and the petition he had of Parking circulated to this end. The efficacy of the petition depend- Lot proposal ed upon having a parking lot 200 feet wide which would extend the full distance from Azusa Avenue to Alameda Avenue. To achieve this he pointed out that the proposed parking area for the new police building and the existing parking area south of the Light and Water Building could be moved to the south side of the police building and the police building moved next to the Light and Water Building. This would open up the proposed parking lot to Alameda, though the access would not be as wide as the rest of the proposed parking lot which would be 200 feet. Mr. Marion Varner, Architect for the new Police Facilities indicated that this could be done without jeopardy to the E'-O.C. Assistance. After much discussion the Mayor recessed the meeting in- Recess to order for all present to make an on site investigation. visit site The meeting was recessed at 9:04 P.M. The Mayor reconvened the meeting at 9:26 P.M. He also asked that Mr.Varner study further the effect and results of moving the police building north- study erly and ascertain the best amount of parking area it would make available. He also asked that the Engineering Depart- ment and Planning Commission cooperate with Mr. Varner in his study and to look into the off-street parking require- ments. No action was taken by Council. Moved by Councilman Cooney, seconded by Councilman Calvert, Motion to and unanimously carried that the meeting be adjourned to Adjourn 7:30 P.M., Tuesday, June 25, 1968, in the Azusa Auditorium ' Meeting was adjourned at 9:52 P.M.
