The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned session
at the above time and place.
Mayor Jens J. Solem called the meeting to order.

A Resolution was presented in grateful memory of Gerard G.
Paquet, Chairman of Planning Commission, who had passed away
on January 22, 1969 from a heart attack.
Councilman Decker offered the Resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA IN
GRATEFUL MEMORY OF GERARD G. PAQUET, AND IN APPRECIATION
OF THE INVALUABLE SERVICES RENDERED BY HIM TO THE CITY OF
AZUSA. + - I
Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Calvert,
and unanimously carried that further reading be waived.
Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Calvert
that the Resolution be adopted. Resolution passed and
adopted by the following vote of Council
YES: Councilmen: Rubio, Decker, Cooney, Calvert, Solem
OES: Councilmen: None
BSENT: Councilmen: None and numbered Resolution 5527.

and unanimously carried that the Proclamation be confirmed.
The Mayor reported on his discussions with Carl Miller,
Director of the Lark Ellen Home for Boys, owners of property
located at the mouth of Beatty Canyon where considerable
debris had originated, which inundated sections of the City.
At that time, the Mayor reported, a request was made to
enter upon the property of Lark Ellen Home, for the purposes
of preventing future mud flows. Mr. Miller's response was
reported by the Mayor as being negative, discourteous and
uncalled for, particularly in the face of the major crisis
affecting the welfare and safety of persons and property with-
in the City.

horized to write a letter to Board of Directors of the
s Angeles Lions Club and the Board of Directors of the
Lark Ellen Home for Boys, informing them of the response
of Mr. Carl Miller during the disaster crisis to the City's
request to enter the property owned by lark Ellen Home, for
possible remedial and preventative measures concerning the
flood of debris issuing from Beatty Canyon which was en-
dangering the welfare and safety of persons and property
within the City of Azusa. '

The City Administrator presented the resignation of Antonio Resig.of
Martinez, Police Officer, for personal reasons, effective A.Martinez
January 23, 1969, at 8:00 p.m. Pol.Off.

Moved by Councilman Calvert, seconded by Councilman Decker 1/23/69
and unanimously carried that the resignation be accepted.
The Director of Public Works gave an informal verbal report Rpt.by
to Council on the extent of damages and costs, to date, Dir.of

$285,000 will be expended or sustained in damages by the disaster

He wished to make record that, contrary to newspaper reports,
there was no check dam constructed by the County or anyone
else and, therefore, one did not break as was reported. The
debris is the result of the rain only.
He further commended the efforts of the U.S. Forest Service,
County Flood Control, Azusa -Western, the Teen Post, and the
citizens of Azusa, who donated many volunteer hours of help.
