MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF
THE CITY COUNCIL
MONDAY, AUGUST 2, 2021 6:30 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa, met in Special Session at the above date and time in the Azusa Auditorium located
at 213 E. Foothill Blvd, Azusa, CA 91702.
Mayor Gonzales called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Charles Alvarez
A. ROLL CALL: Roll call was taken by City Clerk Cornejo.
Councilmember Macias was present via teleconference.
PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: GONZALES, MACIAS, ALVAREZ, AVILA, MENDEZ
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ALSO PRESENT
Elected Officials: City Clerk Cornejo.
Staff Members: City Manager Gonzalez, City Attorney Martinez, Deputy City Manager De Anda-Scaia, Director of
Administrative Services Johnson, Director of Community Resources Carpenter, Chief of Police Bertelsen, and Chief
Deputy City Clerk Garcia.
B.PUBLIC COMMENT
Charles Alvarez showed support of the process of the negotiation between IBEW Local 18 and the City of Azusa; Alvarez
is asking Council and staff to look into the cost of living and retention when reviewing the negotiation.
Gilbert Carlos spoke on behalf of IBEW Local 18 asking the Council to look closely at what IBEW Local 18 is proposing
when going over the negotiation process, such as retention and the cost of living.
C.SCHEDULED ITEMS
1.2021 AZUSA GOLDEN DAYS STATUS REPORT & REVIEW OF DRAFT MEMORANDUM OF
UNDERSTANDING.
Director of Community Resources Carpenter presented a PowerPoint and answered related questions.
Moved by Councilmember Macias, seconded by Councilmember Mendez, to bring back item at the next City Council
Meeting motion failed on a 2-3 vote of the Council.
AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: MACIAS, MENDEZ,
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: AVILA, ALVAREZ, GONZALES
Moved by Councilmember Gonzales, seconded by Councilmember Avila and carried by the following vote of the
Council to appoint Councilmember Alvarez to serve as Council Liaison to the Azusa Golden Days Committee as a
voting member.
