HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-6 Staff Report - COLHS Grant 21-22CONSENT ITEM E-6 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: ANN GRAF, DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND LIBRARY SERVICES DATE: JANUARY 18, 2022 SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF GRANT FOR THE CAREER ON-LINE HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM BACKGROUND: The Azusa City Library has been awarded a grant in the amount of $3,285 from the California State Library for support of the Career On-Line High School program. This action accepts this grant award and approves a corresponding budget amendment to incorporate the grant funds into the current fiscal year budget. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions: 1)Accept the grant award from the California State Library; and 2)Approve necessary budget amendments and adjust the current fiscal year budget accordingly. ANALYSIS: The Library is the recipient of the Career On-Line High School Grant. This grant supports the Career Online High School program, which offers adults the opportunity to earn an accredited high school diploma and credentialed career certificate at the same time. In this program offered by the California State Library, libraries receive support to offer free Career On-Line High School scholarships in their communities. There are currently 48 California public libraries participating in the program. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with the recommended actions; this grant will support the Career On- Line High School program. Upon Council acceptance of the grant, Finance staff will amend the FY2021- 2022 budget consistent with the grant award amount.
