HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-6 Staff Report - Zip Books Grant Acceptance 21-22CONSENT ITEM
E-6
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER
FROM: ANN GRAF, DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY AND LIBRARY
SERVICES
DATE: FEBRUARY 22, 2022
SUBJECT: ACCEPTANCE OF “ZIP BOOKS” GRANT FROM THE CALIFORNIA STATE
LIBRARY
BACKGROUND:
The Azusa City Library has been awarded a grant in the amount of $1,000 from the California Library
State Library. This action accepts this grant award and approves a corresponding budget amendment to
incorporate the grant funds into the current fiscal year budget.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions:
1)Accept the Zip Book Grant award from the California State Library; and
2)Approve necessary budget amendments and adjust the current fiscal year budget accordingly.
ANALYSIS:
The Library is the recipient of a Zip Books Grant. The Zip Books project provides library users with
speedy access to books that are not available in their libraries’ collections. A patron simply requests the
item, the library purchases it from Amazon, and the book is shipped directly to the patron’s home. When
finished, the patron returns it to the library, and the library adds it to the collection. Since Zip Book
material selection is patron-driven, the library’s collection becomes more closely matched to the needs of
the local community members.
FISCAL IMPACT:
This grant will support collection development. Upon Council acceptance of the grant, Finance staff will
amend the FY21-22 budget consistent with the grant award amount of $1,000.
