HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-7 Staff Report - MS Volume Licensing IncreaseCONSENT ITEM E-7 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: ANN GRAF, DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & LIBRARY SERVICES DATE: FEBRUARY 22, 2022 SUBJECT: INCREASE OF MICROSOFT VOLUME LICENSING AGREEMENT BACKGROUND: The City has standardized on Microsoft products for its desktop office products, server operating systems, and SQL language products. In order to expand the licensing for additional servers in our virtual environment the City need to increase the licensing. This action approves a data center license for Windows server and SQL, which allows for a more cost-effective way of adding server licenses as we add virtualized environments. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council take the following action: 1)Approve and authorize the City Manager to append the Microsoft Volume Licensing Agreement with Dell for the addition of data center windows server and SQL licensing in the amount of $39,300 ANALYSIS: Since 2000, the City has utilized standardized Microsoft products for our desktop operating systems, server operating systems, and SQL language products. In order to expand the licensing for additional servers in our virtual environment, the City needd to increase the licensing. This action approves a data center license for Windows server and SQL, on our existing Enterprise Agreement with Dell which allows for a more cost-effective way of adding server licenses as we add virtualized environments. The additional licensing and support is based on a three-year agreement. A payment of $39,300 is due each year for three (3) years. APPROVED CITY COUNCIL 2/22/2022 Increase Microsoft Volume Licensing Agreement February 22, 2022 Page 2 FISCAL IMPACT: Upon Council approval of the recommended actions, staff will prepare a budget amendment and increase the budget by $19,650 under 48-49-930-000-6504 and $19,650 under 48-49-942-000-6504.
