Mayor Solem called the meeting to order and -Jed in the Call to Order
salute to the flag.

Louis Zimmerli, president of the Chamber of Commerce, for Bus. &
addressed Council and recapped his di'scussio'n with Ind. Agent
Council in its adjourned meeting of March 20, 1972, and
explained the intention of the Chamber to hire a Business (referred to
and Industrial Agent as a Manager after Mr. Hanson budget sessions)
retires.
,Ron Draney, treasurer of the Chamber of Commerce,
explained where the proposed program of the Chamber would
create a deficit of approximately $10,000, and pointed
out that the Chamber was willing to underwrite 20% of
this .deficit if the City Council would underwrite the
other 80%.

The City Attorney gave a verbal report regarding the class Auth.C.Atty.
action brought by the State, in which Azusa and some 34 to consent to
other states and cities joined, against Authomobile Manu- dismissal of
facturers Association, to recover damages that may have damage portion
been suffered due to smog control devices. The State is of class action
now requesting cities who are plaintiffs in this action vs. Auto.Mfgrs.

The Police Chief presented the resignation of Mrs. Ida
J. D'Alcomo, Police Clerk, effective 4/8/72, with the
request that her name be placed on the reinstatement
list.

and unanimously carried to accept the resignation and to
place Mrs. D'Alcomo's name on the reinstatement list.
A recommendation was received from the Director of Public
Works for the establishment of a Clean -Up Week Committee
for this year's Clean -Up Week Program. He recommended
that the Committee consist of the Mayor, City Administra-
tor, Director of Public Works, Fire Chief, Police Chief,
and Superintendent of Light & Power.

and unanimously carried to approve the appointment of
the Clean -Up Week Committee as recommended.
A report was submitted by the Director of Public Works
re: railroad -crossing study made by his Department and
the Police Department between March 1 and 10, 1972. The
study showed four overtime violations of the Municipal
Code (Sections 3200.48 and 3200.48a) which blocked
flow of vehicular traffic.

The Police Chief addressed Council and explained the
result of his contact with a representative of the
Santa Fe Railroad re: violations, and they have agreed
to cooperate with the City. He has advised them that
any further violations would result in a complaint
being filed with the District Attorney. The Police
Chief further noted that an attempt will be made to
'file a complaint should any more reports of violations
be received.

found that for approximately as much cost as to remove
the trees, they could be relocated further back on the

informally agreed to such relocation in order to save
the palm trees.

AZUSA AUDITORIUM AZUSA; CALIFORNIA MONDAY, APRIL 3, 1972
A recommendation was received from the Director of Public
Works that the appointment of Manual Alva as Acting Super-
intendent of Public Works be confirmed, effective as of
3/20/72.
Moved by Councilman Clark, seconded by Councilman Snyder
and unanimously carried to approve the recommendation.
The City Administrator notified Council of a communica-
tion received from the State Division of'Highways,
stating they will be opening bids on 4/13/72 for land-
scape beautification along the Foothill Freeway between
Highland Avenue, in Duarte, and Azusa Avenue within the
City limits, with construction scheduled to begin about
the latter part of May, 1972. They will require 4 large
water meters to be installed and service by Azusa Light
& Water Department. They submitted Service Contract
#H-7846, which has been approved by the City Attorney,
for installation of the water meters, with a request for
waiver of advance deposit for water meter installation,
with the State to be billed for costs.
Moved by Councilman Clark, seconded by Councilmen Decker
and unanimously carried to waive the regzired deposit for
the water meters, and to authorze the Mayor to sign the
contract.
The City Administrator requested authorization to obtain
quotations for sale of City's surplus copper (approxim-
ately 8,000 lbs.).
Moved by Councilman Rubio, seconded by Councilman Clark
and unanimously carried to grant the request.
Councilman Rubio reminded Council Members of the Area "D"
Civil Defense meeting on 4/26/72, at the Royal Coachman,
dinner $5.00 each, 6:30 p.m.
The City Clerk read in full a Resolution authorizing
payment of warrants by the City.
Councilman Decker offered the Resolution entitled:
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
ALLOWING CERTAIN CLAIMS AND DEMANDS AND SPECIFYING THE
FUNDS OUT OF WHICH THE SAME ARE TO PAID.
Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Rubio
that the Resolution be adopted. Resolution passed and
adopted by the following vote of Council:
AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Decker, Snyder, Clark, Solem
NOES: Councilmen: None
ABSENT: Councilmen: None and numbered Resolution 5971.

and unanimously carried that the meeting be adjourned.
