Public needs for real time information and accessibility have increased over the years. Agencies utilize message boards for emergencies and to share information on the road for commuters and residents. Additionally, keeping the community alerted builds better communication and trust. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council take the following actions: 1) Approve the purchase of one (1) large digital message board in an amount not to exceed $33,945.98 as listed in the Azusa Police Department’s Capital Improvement budget for 2021-2022. ANALYSIS: The police department utilizes the message board for canyon closure messaging, traffic conditions, weather conditions, and local emergencies such as fires, to name a few. This large digital message board can be programmed to play changeable text as needed by the city. Having a large screen message board will make it safe for drivers to see messaging without causing a hazard on the roadway. APPROVED CITY COUNCIL 5/16/2022 Message Board May 16, 2022 Page 2 FISCAL IMPACT: There will be no fiscal impact to the General Fund. This request was included in the FY2021-22 approved capital outlay projects under account (46 00 000 310 7140).
