E-10
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER
FROM: ROCKY WENRICK, INTERIM CHIEF OF POLICE
DATE: JULY 18, 2022
SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF TWO 2023 BMW R 1250 RT-P716 MOTORCYCLES
BACKGROUND:
As part of the ongoing fleet management program at the Azusa Police department, police motorcycles
are replaced or retired when appropriate and deemed necessary. The Police Department is replacing two
(2) motorcycles and needs to purchase two (2) 2023 BMW R 1250 RT-P716 motorcycles from Long
Beach BMW Motorcycles under the County of Los Angeles bid # RFB-IS-21200889-1.
RECOMMENDATION(S):
It is recommended that the City Council take the following action(s):
1. Approve the purchase of two 2023 BMW R 1250 RT-P716 Motorcycles from Long Beach BMW
Motorcycles, 2125 E. Spring St., Long Beach, CA 90806 in an amount not to exceed $68,166.44;
and
2. Approve the purchase of these motorcycles based on the competitive bid process completed by
the County of Los Angeles as authorized under AMC Section 2-523, from which they ordered
BMW Motorcycles, bid #RFB-IS -21200889-1.
ANALYSIS:
The Police Department budgets to replace high mileage motorcycles. This fleet rotation involves
replacing two of the fleet to reduce the annual capital outlay for patrol motorcycles while providing safe,
reliable and up-to-date equipment for motor officers. Not only do these high mileage motorcycles
become expensive to maintain, but compromise officer and public safety. Several police motorcycles are
beyond their warranties and need retirement from patrol deployment.
