HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-9 Staff Report - Purchase 4 2023 Police VehiclesCONSENT ITEM E-9 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: ROCKY WENRICK, CHIEF OF POLICE DATE: JULY 18, 2022 SUBJECT: PURCHASE OF FOUR 2023 FORD UTILITY POLICE INTERCEPTOR VEHICLES BACKGROUND: As part of the ongoing fleet management program at the Azusa Police Department, police vehicles are replaced or retired out of the fleet when appropriate and deemed necessary. The Police Department is replacing four (4) vehicles and needs to purchase four (4) 2023 Ford Police Interceptor SUV’s from National Auto Fleet Group in Watsonville, California under National Joint Powers Authority Contract# 091521-NAF. RECOMMENDATION(S): It is recommended that the City Council take the following action(s): 1. Approve the purchase of four (4) 2023 Ford Police Interceptor SUV vehicles from National Auto Fleet Group in Watsonville, California 95076, in an amount not to exceed $155,528.88; and 2. Approve the purchase of these vehicles based on the competitive bid process completed by the County of Los Angeles as authorized under AMC Section 2-523, from which they ordered Ford Police Interceptor Vehicles under the Sourcewell master vehicle contract # 091521-NAF. ANALYSIS: Each year the Police Department budgets to replace high mileage patrol vehicles. This fleet rotation involves replacing three of the fleet to reduce the annual capital outlay for patrol vehicles while providing safe, reliable and up-to-date equipment for patrol officers and other public safety personal. Not only do these high mileage vehicles become expensive to maintain, but compromise officer and public safety. Several police vehicles are beyond their warranties and need retirement from patrol deployment. These Four vehicles will be used as marked patrol units. The County of Los Angeles Purchase Order was granted at a base price not including tax and tire fees of $38,882.22 per SUV, which includes driver APPROVED CITY COUNCIL 7/18/2022 Purchase 4 2023 Police Vehicles July 18, 2022 Page 2 and front passenger side-impact airbags. The total cost for the four marked patrol units and inclusive of tax and tire fees is $155,528.88. FISCAL IMPACT: There are adequate funds available for this purchase using the 2022/2023 Police Equipment Replacement Fund account #4620310000-7135 for the four marked patrol vehicles.
