HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-22 Staff Report - APU Nursing site placement agreementCONSENT ITEM E-22 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: MIKI CARPENTER, DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY RESOURCES DATE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2022 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF AN AGREEMENT WITH AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY, SCHOOL OF NURSING, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, TO CREATE A FIELD PRACTICE PLACEMENT SITE BACKGROUND: Azusa Pacific University (APU), School of Nursing has multiple academic programs and has been a long time supporter of City of Azusa programs in the Community Resources Department, particularly at the Senior Center. These students have worked on projects that address the health needs of our Azusa community, offering workshops, wellness check-in calls, blood pressure checks, and more. The City of Azusa can continue to benefit from the work that these students would do at the Senior Center, at our Youth and Family Center, and at community events throughout the year. This would be the first placement site for the new Department of Public Health, within the School of Nursing at Azusa Pacific University. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends that City Council take the following actions: 1) Approve a Site Placement Agreement with Azusa Pacific University, School of Nursing, to create a placement site in the City of Azusa; and, 2)Authorize the City Manager to execute an Agreement with Azusa Pacific University, School of Nursing, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, on behalf of the City. ANALYSIS: The Community Resouces Department operates the Senior Center and the Youth and Family Center in Azusa and these students could supplement curring City offereings. These students are skilled in program development, health education, data collection, and many other programming areas. Entering APPROVED CITY COUNCIL 9/19/2022 APU Nursing/Public Health Placement Site Agreement September 19, 2022 Page 2 into an agreement with Azusa Pacific University, School of Nursing, would allow these students to assist with programs provided by the Community Resources Department. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. The student workers are fulfilling an academic requirement and are provided without expense to the City.
