DATE: SEPTEMBER 19, 2022
SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF AN AGREEMENT WITH AZUSA PACIFIC UNIVERSITY,
SCHOOL OF NURSING, DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC HEALTH, TO CREATE A
FIELD PRACTICE PLACEMENT SITE
BACKGROUND:
Azusa Pacific University (APU), School of Nursing has multiple academic programs and has been a
long time supporter of City of Azusa programs in the Community Resources Department, particularly at
the Senior Center. These students have worked on projects that address the health needs of our Azusa
community, offering workshops, wellness check-in calls, blood pressure checks, and more. The City of
Azusa can continue to benefit from the work that these students would do at the Senior Center, at our
Youth and Family Center, and at community events throughout the year. This would be the first
placement site for the new Department of Public Health, within the School of Nursing at Azusa Pacific
University.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that City Council take the following actions:
1) Approve a Site Placement Agreement with Azusa Pacific University, School of Nursing, to
create a placement site in the City of Azusa; and,
2)Authorize the City Manager to execute an Agreement with Azusa Pacific University, School of
Nursing, in a form acceptable to the City Attorney, on behalf of the City.
ANALYSIS:
The Community Resouces Department operates the Senior Center and the Youth and Family Center in
Azusa and these students could supplement curring City offereings. These students are skilled in
program development, health education, data collection, and many other programming areas. Entering
