HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-9 Staff Report - Purchase of Node for VX RailCONSENT ITEM E-9 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: ANN GRAF, DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY & LIBRARY SERVICES DATE: MARCH 20, 2023 SUBJECT: REQUEST TO APPROVE PURCHASE OF NODE FOR VX-RAIL HYPERCONVERGED APPLIANCE FROM CONVERGE ONE BACKGROUND: The city currently has a VX-Rail Hyperconverged Appliance that supports all of the virtual servers. It is over 4 years old and with the addition of multiple virtual servers and databases it is necessary to expand our storage. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the City Council take the following actions: 1)Waive the competitive bidding process as authorized under Azusa Municipal Code section 2- 517(38) Solicitation and Bidding exceptions; Computers, Computer Components; and 2)Approve the purchase of the node for Hyperconverged Virtual Appliance and installation services from ConvergeOne, not to exceed amount of $ 61,000. ANALYSIS: The City has been using the existing VX-Rail Hyperconverged Appliance for Virtualization of servers. With the addition of many virtual machines replacing physical servers there need to expand capacity on the appliance. We now use virtual machines as the primary way to create new servers and storage. FISCAL IMPACT: Funds for this project were allocated in the Capital Outlay Budget for Fiscal Year 2022-2023 for under accounts 4649930000-7142 and 4649942000-7142.
