SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF AN INTERNSHIP PARTNER AGREEMENT WITH CAL POLY,
POMONA, KINESIOLOGY DEPARTMENT FOR OLDER ADULT EXERCISE
CLASSES
BACKGROUND:
Cal Poly, Pomona, Department of Kinesiology, has faculty and students that are available to provide an
evidence based exercise program designed for seniors. The Community Resources Department is
actively developing expanded services for residents and can utilize these interns for program
development activities at both the Senior Center and the Youth and Family Center.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that City Council take the following actions:
1) Approve an Internship Partner Agreement with Cal Poly, Pomona to create an internship
placement site in the City of Azusa; and,
2)Authorize the City Manager to execute an Agreement with Cal Poly, Pomona, in a form
acceptable to the City Attorney, on behalf of the City.
ANALYSIS:
Entering into an agreement with Cal Poly, Pomona, would allow for supervised internships of students
currently participating in a degree program in Kinesiology, to provide services to seniors in Azusa.
These intern opportunities could also be expanded in future school terms in other areas of the City and
involving other academic programs at Cal Poly.

FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. The interns are provided without expense to the
City.
