TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
VIA: SERGIO GONZALES, CITY MANAGER
FROM: ROCKY WENRICK, CHIEF OF POLICE
DATE: JULY 17, 2023
SUBJECT: PURCHASING FOUR 2024 FORD UTILITY POLICE INTERCEPTORS
BACKGROUND:
As part of the ongoing fleet maintenance program at the Azusa Police Department, police vehicles are
replaced or retired out of the fleet when appropriate and deemed necessary. The Police Department is
replacing Four (4) vehicles and needs to purchase four (4) 2024 Ford Police Interceptor SUV’s from
National Auto Fleet Group in Watsonville, California under National Joint Powers Authority Contract#
091521-NAF.
RECOMMENDATION(S):
It is recommended that the City Council take the following actions:
1)Approve the purchase of four (4) 2024 Ford Police Interceptors SUV’s vehicles from National
Auto Fleet Group in Watsonville, California 95076, in an amount not to exceed $171,081.76.
2) Approve the purchase of these vehicles based on the competitive bid process completed by the
County of Los Angeles as authorized under AMC Section2-253, from which they ordered Ford
Police Interceptor Vehicles under the Sourcewell master vehicle contract #091521-NAF.
ANALYSIS:
Each year the Police Department budgets to replace high mileage patrol vehicles. This fleet rotation
involves replacing three of the fleet to reduce the annual capital outlay for patrol vehicles while
providing safe, reliable and up-to-date equipment for patrol officers and other public safety personal.
Not only do these high mileage become expensive to maintain, but compromise officer and public
safety. Several police vehicles are beyond their warranties and need retirement from patrol deployment.
These four (4) vehicles will be used as marked patrol units. The County of Los Angeles Purchase order
was granted at a base price not including tax tire fees of $42,770.44 per SUV. Which includes driver and
front passenger side-impact airbags. The total cost for the four marked patrol units and inclusive of tax
and tire fees is 171,081.76.
