HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-6 Staff Report - OTS TRIP 23-24 TR24004CONSENT ITEM E-6 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: ROCKY WENRICK, CHIEF OF POLICE DATE: NOVEMBER 6, 2023 SUBJECT: APPROVE GRANT AGREEMENT FROM CALIFORNIA OFFICE OF TRAFFIC SAFETY FOR THE “TRAFFIC RECORDS IMPROVEMENT PROJECT” (TRIP) 2023-2024, GRANT NUMBER TR24004 BACKGROUND: Through a competitive process, the Office of Traffic Safety provides grant funding to selected police departments to assist in timely, accurate, complete, accessible, and uniform traffic records to identify and prioritize traffic safety issues, choose appropriate safety countermeasures and evaluate their effectiveness. Traffic records improvement grants provide traffic safety stakeholders with the ability to plan and initiate traffic records improvement projects such as the purchase and implementation of traffic crash reporting systems as well as electronic citation equipment and software. The city has been awarded $60,000.00 of grant funding to continue traffic safety efforts with the implementation of traffic reporting software. RECOMMENDATIONS: Staff recommends the City Council take the following actions: 1)Accept a grant in the amount of $60,000 (for software) from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and; 2)Authorize the Mayor to execute the grant agreement. Approved City Council November 6, 2023 OTS TRIP 2023-2024 November 6, 2023 Page 2 ANALYSIS: The Azusa Police Department Traffic Division has applied for and was awarded a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. The Project title is “Traffic Records Improvement Project” (TRIP) and the Grant number is TR24004. The Grant obligates the Police Department to Purchase and integrate a traffic reporting software. The goal of the Traffic Records Improvement Project is to equip state and local agencies with appropriate safety reporting systems in the City of Azusa. This will be accomplished through a reporting software. The Grant is worth up to $60,000 and reimburses the City for software purchases. The Grant period will run from October 1, 2023 to September 30, 2024. FISCAL IMPACT: This is a reimbursement grant in the amount of $60,000 from the California Office of Traffic Safety. Quarterly returns will be administered and filed by the police department on a schedule set by OTS. Upon council approval and once the agreement is executed, Staff will prepare a budget amendment for the TRIP 2023-2024 grant.
