Moved by Councilman Solem, seconded by Councilman Cruz and unanimously carried by roll call to adjourn to the Library Auditorium. LIBRARY AUDITORIUM AZUSA, CALIFORNIA TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 10, 1974 8:00 PM The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned regular session at the above time and place. Mayor Decker called the meeting to order. Call to Order Present at Roll Call: Councilmen: Rubio, Solem, Cruz, Arkison, Decker Also Present: City Administrator Dangleis, Director of Public Works Wells,.Superintendent of Light & Power Gerharz, Finance Officer Cooney, City Clerk Solis. Mr. Wendell Mounce, 3300 Temple Street, Los Angeles, Apvl. plans & Architect for the new City Hall, addressed Council. He specs for new gave a summary of the items in the bid of L. E. Karger City Hall Company, low bidder, which through elimination and/or modification can effect savings. The item that would (L.E.Karger Co. effect the greatest saving is the demolition of the low bidder) City Hall. This could be done by City forces. The total reduction in cost would be approximately $39,624. The Finance Officer said that there was sufficient monies in the Revenue Sharing Fund to cover the additional cost for the new City Hall. The following persons addressed Council giving their views of the construction of the new City Hall. E1 anor Allen. Camilla Williams Lois Wylog Art Morales Alfred Pimentel Margaret Lewis After discussion, it was, Moved by Councilman Rubio, seconded by Councilman Cruz to reject all bids received for construction of the new City Hall. Motion failed by the following vote: AYES: Councilmen: Rubio, Cruz NOES: Councilmen: Solem, Arkison, Decker ABSENT: Councilmen: None After discussion, it was Moved by Councilman Arkison, seconded by Councilman Solem that we accept the bid of L. E. Karger Company, of West Covina, in the amount of $415,000, with the stipu- lation that there will be pre -negotiated change orders in the amount of $3,800; accomplishing the demolition of City Hall by force account and elimination of various items totaling $8,500, which will be submitted by the architect. The Mayor and the City Clerk are to execute the contract and return bid bonds to the unsuccessful bidders. The City Administrator presented a letter from Jack L. Loether, Publisher of the Azusa Herald/Glendora.Press. The newspapers plan to include a special section in the edition,*published the week before Golden Days, which will contain the complete history of Azusa Golden Days; in addition, a parade program will be distributed along the parade route. He requested that the City support this special issue at a cost of $13500. Moved by Councilman Cruz, seconded by Councilman Solem and unanimously carried that the City Council authorize the underwriting of $1,500 for the special Golden Days edition of the Azusa Herald; if the Golden Days Committee approves the format as submitted to the committee on September 11, 19743 by Mr. Loether. The City Administrator will contact the Chamber of Commerce for financial participation. (Mr. Dangleis will also advise the Golden Days Committee that if funds remain of the $6,000 allocated to the committee by the City Council, these funds must be used to offset the $1,500 for the supplement.)
