SUBJECT: ADOPT A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE TEMPORARY CLOSURE OF CERTAIN
CITY OF AZUSA STREETS FOR THE CANYON CITY CLASSIC 5K/10K/CUTIE FUN
RUN
BACKGROUND:
The City of Azusa and its Community Resources Department remains committed to providing programs,
activities and special events that promote healthy lifestyles, and improving quality of life. Once again the
City of Azusa will host the 4th Annual CommUNITY Festival on Saturday, May 11, 2024. This year, the
Department aims to launch the inaugural Canyon City Classic 5K/10K/Cutie Fun Run, to coincide with the
Annual Festival. It is anticipated that 500 residents may participate in this new event, with growth potential,
each successive year.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that the City Council take the following actions:
1)Approve the proposed street closures and adopt Resolution No. 2024-C23, authorizing the closure of
certain City of Azusa streets for the Canyon City Classic 5K/10K/Cutie Fun Run.
ANALYSIS:
The City of Azusa’s Community Resources Department plans to hold the 4th Annual CommUNITY Festival
at Memorial Park on Saturday, May 11, 2024. This year, a new run/walk event is being proposed to coincide
with the festival, creating the inaugural, Canyon City Classic & CommUNITY Festival event. There would
be a 9:00am start time for the 10K; a 9:30am start for the 5K; and the Cutie Fun Run is proposed around the
perimeter of Memorial Park, on the sidewalk. The 10K is a double loop of the 5K proposed course.
