Information Technology Manager-Network System Classification Specification ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ SPECIAL SERVICES OFFICER ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ DEFINITION Under the general direction of the Chief of Police, the Special Services Officer performs security duties at city-owned facilities (to include buildings and outdoor spaces) and books and processes arrestees; provide security and care for persons in custody; prepares arrestees for court; transports arrestees to court and outside detention facilities; coordinate visitations; respond to public inquiries; and prepare and serve meals those persons in custody. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS Incumbents will be assigned to a division with the Police Department as designated by the Chief of Police. The Special Services Officer must maintain strict confidentiality with all information obtained during their official duties. This position is considered an entry- level position responsible for the safety and security of City-owned facilities and the safe and efficient operation of the jail. Incumbents are subject to rotating shifts, weekends, and holiday work. This classification is distinguished from the next higher classification of Police Officer in that the latter performs more complex and technical field and law enforcement duties. Performs related functions as required. CLASS CHARACTERISTICS This single-position class reports directly to the Director of Information Technology and is responsible for the daily operations of the City’s GIS and will assist the Director in the strategic planning, development, and implementation of the City’s GIS-related resources and activities SUPERVISION EXCERCISED Supervision is provided by the Director of Information Technology. Supervision is exercised over Information Technology staff. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS •Plans, implements, manages, and supports complex interdepartmental GIS initiatives and programs within the City. •Work with department managers and directors to help execute their visions using GIS/location-based technology. •Manage the City’s GIS/location-based technology operations including computer/mobile device operations, technical support, systems analysis, programming, database management, and other related technologies. •Manage subordinate GIS staff, set work priorities, perform annual performance evaluations, provide training and skill development. •Prepare and monitor the GIS operating budget. Providing funding proposals and develop forecasting of funds for additional staff, equipment, materials, and supplies.
