The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Mayor Solem called the meeting to order and led in the Call to Order salute to the Flag. Invocation was given by Reverend Elmer Nelson of the Invocation Foursquare Gospel Church. Present at Roll Call: Councilmen: Decker, Fry, Cruz, Roll Call Moses, Solem Also Present: City Attorney Newton, City Administrator Dangleis, Finance Officer Cooney, Plan- ning Director Fitzsimmons, Director of Public Works Wells, Chief of Police Elkins, Fire Chief Littlefield, Assistant City Librarian Vandale, Superintendent of Light & Power Gerharz, Director of Community Services Guarrera, Personnel Clerk Filer, City Clerk Solis There being no additions or corrections, the Minutes of Appvl.Min. the December 1, 1980 regular meeting stand approved as of 12/1/80 written. mtg. Mayor Solem presented Resolution/Plaque, which the City Res/Plaque Administrator read in full, to Mr. Frank Halstead, for to Frank his. services to the City as employee in the Parks Depart- Halstead ment. Council adjourned to Community Redevelopment Agency at 7:43 p.m . CRA reconvened as City Council at 7:45 P.M. Moved by Councilman Moses, seconded by Councilman Decker and unanimously carried by roll call to deny claims vs City for alleged wrongful death of Thomas V. Hines by broken power line occurring August 14, 1980 as follows: 1. Robert J. Hines, Jr., father of deceased, for medical and funeral expenses in the amount of $3,712.04. 2. Sandra E. Hines, wife of deceased, claim for damages as wife of deceased in the amount of $1,000,000.00. 3• Joan H. Hines, mother damages as parent of $1,0005000.00. 4. Robert J. Notice was given that Planning Commission by Resolution P.C.Res.#1702 No. 1702 declared its intention to initiate and initiating initiating action to determine the appropriate zone classification action -zone upon annexation on the property located at the northwest class upon corner of Fifth Street and Alosta Avenue. No action annexation t aken by Council. A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA ALLOWING CERTAIN CLAIMS AND DEMANDS AND SPECIFYING THE FUNDS OUT OF WHICH THE SAME ARE TO BE PAID. Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses that resolution be adopted. Resolution passed and adopted by the following vote of the Council: CIVIC AUDITORIUM AZUSA, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, DECEMBER 15, 1980 Page 4 to follow such procedures and that the public welfare would be promoted by dispensing with same. Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Decker Appvl.Fin.Off., and unanimously carried by roll call to authorize Cty.Adm.& Cncl. attendance of Finance Officer, City Administrator and mbrs.at LCC any Council members interested in attending, at the Empl.Relations League of California Cities 15th Annual Employee Institute Relations Institute, January 21-22, 1981 in San Francisco. Moved by Councilman Moses, seconded by Councilman Cruz Appvl.appt.C. and unanimously carried to approve appointment of Mrs. Armendaris, Cynthia Armendaris as probationary police clerk, Pol.Clerk effective December 29, 1980. Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Fry Appvl.reimbrsmt and unanimously carried that Harry Wright, Welder, in for broken the Water Division of the Public Works Department be glasses - reimbursed $90.00 for glasses broken in the line of duty. H.Wright Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses Appvl. fee and unanimously carrieH to adopt the fee schedule as schedule prepared by Los Angeles County for building permit fees, B1dg.Permits and that City Attorney prepare the proper resolution. Moved by Councilman Cruz, seconded by Councilman Moses Appvl.vacation and unanimously carried by roll call to approve vacation carry over & carry over to calendar year 1981 by the following pay for several employees: employees Joe Guarrera, Director of Community Services 124 hours Art Lesh, Equipment Supervisor, 84 hours Robert Elliott, Fireman, 3 shifts Richard Lara, Police Captain, 106 hours Motion further added that the following employees be paid for their unused vacation hours: Michael Scherer, Police Officer, 88 hours Robert Termath, Police Sergeant 80 hours 68 James Albert, Police Sergeant, hours. Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses and unanimously carried that letter of commendation be prepared for Officer Broderick as a result of placing No. one on the Sergeant's Eligibility List. Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Decker and unanimously carried to adjourn.
