The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session at the above time and place. Mayor Solem called the meeting to order. Call to Order The Flag Salute was led by the Spanish Trails Girl Scout Flag Salute Brownie Troop No. 535 from Murray School. In the absence of a Reverend to give the Invocation, Invocation ' there was a moment of silent prayer. Present at Roll Call: Councilmen: Decker, Fry, Moses, Roll Call Solem Absent at Roll Call: Councilmen: Cruz Cruz Absent Also Present: City Attorney Newton, City Administrator Dangleis, Finance Officer Cooney, Chief of Police Elkins, Fire Chief Littlefield, Assistant City Librarian Vandale, Director of Community Services Guarrera, Superin- tendent of Light and Power Gerharz, Director of Public Works Wells, City Clerk Solis There being no additions or corrections, the Minutes of Ap vl.Min.of the February 17, 1981 regular meeting stand approved as 27/81 mtg. written. Mayor Solem presented Proclamation, which the City Proclamation Administrator read in full, to the Spanish Trails Girl to Spanish Scout Council, proclaiming the week of March 8th - 14th, Trails Girl 1981 as Girl Scout Week. Scouts Councilman Fry presented plaques to Phillip Rivera, Plaques to Richard Garcia -and Tom Villanueva for their heroic Rivera, Garcia actions at -scene of fire occurring at the Azusa Pawn & Villanueva Shop. Council adjourned to Community Redevelopment Agency at Adj.to CRA 7:43 p.m. CRA reconvened as City Council at 7:44 p.m. Reconvened The hour of 7:30 p.m. being the time set for Public Pub.Hrg.re: Hearing onlappeal of denial of variance request to Var.V-699 waive the two car garage requirement for a single family Jesus Rodriguez residence as petitioned by Jesus T. Rodriguez, 117 N. Dalton, Variance Case No. V-699, the Mayor declared the (denied) Hearing open. City Clerk read affidavit of proof of publication of Notice of said Hearing published in the Azusa Herald on February 18, 1981 and affidavit of proof of posting said property on February 20, 1981. Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses and unanimously carried to close the Hearing. ' Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Fry and unanimously carried by roll call that variance re- quest as petitioned by Mr. Jesus T. Rodriguez be denied. City Clerk announced that bids were opened in his office Bid Opening on Thursday, February 26, 1981 at 10:00 a.m, for the restrooms at construction of restrooms at Memorial Park. Memorial Park Proj.#603 City Clerk read affidavit of proof of publication of Notice Inviting Bids, published in the Azusa Herald on (Sierra February 11th and 18th, 1981. Valentine vs City of Azusa. Agenda Item 9-A, request for city's participation in proposed community transportation system was withdrawn, and is to be submitted at a later meeting. Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Moses and unanimiously carried that the International Brother- hood of Electrical Workers Local 18, be recognized as representatives, but not exclusively, of certain employees; further, that secretary classification be deleted from representation by that local for the Meet and Confer sessions. Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Decker and unanimously carried that Thomas Peavy, Working Line Mechanic Supervisor, be terminated in view of the fact that he was granted a disability retirement from PERS on June 1, 1980. Necessity for termination of this employee is required in order that position be vacant and that Personnel Board be allowed to fill same.
