CIVIC AUDITORIUM AZUSA, CALIFORNIA MONDAY, JULY 20, 1981 7:30 P.M.
The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular
session at the above time and place.
Mayor Solem called the meeting to order and led in Call to Order
the salute to the Flag.
Invocation was given by Monsignor Robert Stein of the Invocation
St. Frances of Rome Church.
'The Mayor introduced Mrs. Sharon Lewis, Youth Exchange Intro -Youth
Committee Chairman to the audience, who in turn intro- Exchange &
duced Mrs. Lurece Hunter, President, Azusa Sister City Gift Presen.
Committee and Mr. Joe Torres, Vice -President, Azusa by Council
Sister City Committee, who introduced the chaperones
and youth exchange students to the Council. The visiting
guests were as follows:

youth exchange students visiting from Zacatecas.

The City Clerk announced that bids were opened in his Bid Opening
office on Thursday, July 16, 1981, at 10:00 a.m. for the Proj.37-81
construction of basketball courts at Memorial Park, Basketball
Project No. 37-81. Crts.@Mem11 Pk.
City Clerk read affidavit of proof of publication of (Dyne Const.,
Notice Inviting Bids, published in the Azusa Herald on Inc.
June 24th and July 1st, 1981. Five bids were received low bidder)
as follows:

Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Decker and
unanimously carried by roll call that Project No. 37-81
be completed with all phases, and that contract be awarded
to Dyno Construction in the amount of $79,876.54; that
Mayor and City Clerk be authorized to execute the contract
and that bidders' guarantees be returned to the unsucces-
sful bidders.
Moved by Councilman Moses that lines of communication
remain open with Los Angeles County regarding their
objections to proposed second amendment to the redevelop-
ment plan, died for the lack of a second.
Councilman Decker offered for second reading and adoption
an Ordinance entitled:
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
APPROVING AND ADOPTING THE SECOND AMENDMENT TO THE
REDEVELOPMENT PLAN FOR THE AZUSA CENTRAL BUSINESS
DISTRICT REDEVELOPMENT PROJECT.

and unanimously carried by roll call to waive further
reading.

Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Fry
and carried by roll call that City Administrator contact
Supervisor Schabarum's office to set up a meeting with
him and the Council to discuss the County's objection to
second amendment to the redevelopment project. Council-
man Moses dissenting.
Public Hearing regarding weed abatement Case No. 81-161,
Henry Van Ginkel, was brought before Council.
Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses
and uZanimously carried that Public Hearing be continued
for receipt of further reports from Fire and Public Works
Department as to Mr. Van Ginkels' property.

It was consensus of Council that communication be
forwarded to CALTRANS recommending that they commence
watering areas adjacent to the freeway.
It was consensus of Council that City Attorney investi-
gate franchise concerning ON TV.
Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses
and unanimously carried that plaque be prepared for
Mr. Len Vanderhoop for his services to the City and
the youth of Azusa.
It was consensus of Council that Clean -Up Committee
review the street sweeping schedule with regard to
complaints received and work out a solution to these
problems.

and unanimously carried to adjourn.
