The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session
at the above time and place.
Mayor Solem called the meeting to order and led in the
salute to the Flag.
Invocation was given by Reverend Gary Silvestri of the
United Pentecostal Church.

There being no additions or corrections, the Minutes of
the September 8, 1981 regular meeting stand approved as
written.
Council adjourned to Community Redevelopment Agency at
7:35 p.m.
Council reconvened at 7:37 p.m.
The hour of 7:30 p.m. being the time set for Public
Hearing on sub -standard structure located at 635 N.
Azusa Avenue, Anthony M. and Julia S. Ortuno, the Mayor
declared the Hearing open.

of Notice of said Hearing published in the Azusa Herald
on September 2, 1981.

It was consensus of Council that Director of Public Works;. Report on Plan
investigate the status of the plans for above building and,,._Check for above
ascertain cause of delay in approval by the BuildingDepartment.

and unanimously carried by roll call to continue Public
Hearing for a period of 60 days.
The hour of 7:30 p.m. being the time set for public Pub.Hrg.re:
Hearing regarding the 1982-83 application for Housing HCDA program
and Community Development Funds, the Mayor declared the
Hearing open.
Deputy City Clerk read affidavit of proof of publication
of Notice of said Hearing published in the Azusa Herald
on September 9, 1981.
Moved. by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Decker
and unanimously carried to close the Hearing.
No action taken by Council; second Public Hearing
regarding the HCDA Program is scheduled before City Council
on October 5, 1981.
Deputy City Clerk announced that bids were opened in the Bid Opening
office of the City Clerk on Thursday', September 10, 1981 Wolf cast -
at 10:00 a.m. for a Wolf black cast iron stove, formerly iron stove
located at the Woman's Club and declared surplus
property.
Deputy City Clerk read affidavit of proof of publication
of Notice Inviting Bids published in the Azusa Herald
on September 2, 1981. No bids were received.

Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses
and unanimously carried to approve step raise for Police
Officer T. Nicassio to Step 4, effective October 2, 1981.
Notice was given that,Planning Commission by Resolution
No. 1775 conditionally approved a variance to allow a
reduced distance from centerline of street to 30' instead
of the required 50' and grant the reduced distance of
1616" for a driveway width for 18 parking spaces but
DENY the reduced parking of 44 spaces instead of the
required 51 on the property located at 718 N. Loren Ave.,
Variance Case No. V -72b, Robert Sprague. No action
taken by Council.
Notice was given that Planning Commission by Resolution
No. 1776 conditionally approved a variance to allow
undersized units (509 sq. ft.) in a home for the aged
on the property located at 819 N. Citrus Avenue,

that Ordinance be adopted. Ordinance passed and adopted
by the following vote of the Council:

' Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Moses
and unanimously carried by roll call that City Clerk
survey surrounding cities in an effort to determine
amount of money generated by these machines and amount
of license fee charged whether gross receipts or per
machine.
Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Fry
and unanimously carried to receive and file City
Treasurer's Financial Statement showing a balance of
$7,664,458.52 as of August 31, 1981.
Moved by Councilman Moses that $500.00 be donated to
the Azusa High School Drill Team for purchase of uniforms,
died for the lack of a second.
Moved by Councilman Fry that request for donations by
the Drill Team be referred to the School Board, also
died for the lack of a second.
Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Moses,
and unanimously carried by roll call that donation of
$50.00 be made toward purchase of uniforms by the Azusa
Drill Team.

City Clerk present a recommendation to Council with of Aud.by
regard to use of auditorium by the Canyon City Players Canyon City
and that possibly city employee be present at times the Players
players are using the auditorium to oversee operations.
Moved by Councilman Decker, seconded by Councilman Fry Ltr.to Pete
that City Administrator contact Supervisor Pete Schabarum's Schabarum re:
office and ascertain if Los Angeles County Fire Chief LA Cnty.Fire
authorized representatives from his department to attend personnel at
City Council meeting and if they are here on his behalf, Cncl, mtg.
as the Council did not invite these representatives to
the meeting. Motion carried by the following vote of the

Councilman Moses requested that City Administrator advise
Supervisor Schabarum that he and Councilman Cruz objected
to communication and that they were in favor of the Los
Angeles County Fire personnel being in attendance at

Councilman Decker offered a resolution authorizing Res. #7039
payment of certain claims and demands which the Deputy City Warrants
Clerk read in full.
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA
ALLOWING CERTAIN CLAIMS AND DEMANDS AND SPECIFYING THE
FUNDS OUT OF WHICH THE SAME ARE TO BE PAID.

Council recessed to Executive Session at 8:50 p.m.
Council reconvened at 9:04 p.m.
Councilman Fry commended owner of apartments at 451 W.
Foothill for improvements made to that building.
'Councilman Cruz apprised Council that the Queen and
City Council were to be introduced at 7:00 p.m. on
October 3, 1981 at the Fiesta de Azusa.
Moved by Councilman Fry, seconded by Councilman Decker
and unanimously carried to adjourn.
