SUBJECT: CONSIDER THE RECOMMENDATIONS OF THE PARKS & RECREATION
COMMISSION, AND SELECT THE NAME OF AZUSA’S FIRST DOG PARK
BACKGROUND:
The development of a dog park in the City has been a topic of discussion intermittently since 2017 and
has remained one of the Parks and Recreation Commission’s long-term goals. With the designation of
excess reserves to fund this project, Staff from multiple Departments and vendors, have been
collaborating on the design, and now the award of contract for construction to begin. The Parks and
Recreation Commission has conferred on the many possibilities in the name of this first dog park in
Azusa, and is providing recommendations, which are being brought to City Council for consideration.
RECOMMENDATIONS:
Staff recommends that City Council take the following actions:
1)Receive, consider, and discuss the Parks & Recreation Commission recommendations for the
name of the dog park; and,
2) Determine the name of Azusa’s first dog park.
ANALYSIS:
Azusa’s first dog park will be 60,355 square feet and will include fencing that separates small and large
dogs, landscaping, decorative elements, a multi-purpose area, seating, hydration stations, dog waste
dispensers, trash receptacles, and much more. With construction being initiated, the park requires
naming and will be used for the park marquee and for other public information, once selected. The Parks
and Recreation Commission has deliberated over two meetings and considered over 100 suggested
names that were compiled from social media inquiries, surveys, individual submissions, and neighbor

polling. From these, the Commissioners brings forth their top three suggestions, for Council
consideration:
1. Canyon City Canine Corral
2. Canyon City Paw Park
3. Canyon City Dog Park
FISCAL IMPACT:
There is no fiscal impact associated with this action.
