D-2
TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL
VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER
FROM: JEFFREY LAWRENCE CORNEJO, JR., CITY CLERK
LUCY DEMIRJIAN, INTERIM CITY CLERK SERVICES MANAGER
DATE: JANUARY 21, 2025
SUBJECT: DISCUSSSION ON ASSIGNMENT OF CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS TO COUNCIL AD-HOC
COMMITTEES AND OUTSIDE AGENCY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES
BACKGROUND:
City Council Members represent the City on various sub-committees and intergovernmental agencies,
boards and committees that consider policy and legislation that directly impacts the City. Formerly,
these assignments were reviewed on a biennial basis. With the district-based elections and rotational
Mayor process, these assignments should be reviewed annually when the City Council reorganizes.
RECOMMENDATION:
Staff recommends that the City Council approve the following:
1)Review City Council assignments to Ad-Hoc Committees and outside Board and Committees,
previously approved for a two-year period from February 2024 to February 2026; and
2)Provide direction, affirming or modifying assignments.
ANALYSIS:
Every two years, the City Council assigns the Mayor or the Members of the Council to represent
Azusa on various outside Agency Boards and Committees. Some appointments are made by
Resolution and require that the Mayor serve in this capacity, and others are established by a
majority vote of the Mayor and City Council. The roster of appointments approved for the period
covering February 2024 through February 2026 is attached for your review. Modifications to the
assignments are necessary as there is a change to the Council with the last election. Additionally,
going forward, these assignments must be reviewed annually with the rotation of the Mayor and
Mayor Pro Tem.
