HomeMy WebLinkAboutE-3 Staff Report - City Council Appointment to CommitteesCONSENT ITEM E-3 TO: HONORABLE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE CITY COUNCIL VIA: SERGIO GONZALEZ, CITY MANAGER FROM: JEFFREY LAWRENCE CORNEJO, JR., CITY CLERK LUCY DEMIRJIAN, INTERIM CITY CLERK SERVICES MANAGER DATE: FEBRUARY 3, 2025 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF CITY COUNCIL ASSIGNMENTS TO AD-HOC COMMITTEES AND OUTSIDE AGENCY BOARDS AND COMMITTEES BACKGROUND: City Council Members represent the City on various sub-committees and intergovernmental agencies, boards and committees that consider policy and legislation that directly impacts the City. Formerly, these assignments were reviewed on a biennial basis. With the district-based elections and rotational Mayor process, these assignments should be reviewed annually when the City Council reorganizes. On January 21, 2025, the City Council discussed the assignment of delegates and provided direction to staff. Formal action by the City Council is now needed so that agencies can be notified of delegate/alternate assignments. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends that the City Council approve the following: 1)Approve City Council representative(s) to Ad-Hoc Committees and outside Board and Committees, for a one-year period from February 2025 to February 2026; and 2)Approve Resolution No. 2025-C06, designating City Council representative(s) to the Board of Directors of the League of California Cities, the Los Angeles County City Selection Committee, the Governing Board of the County Sanitation District No. 22 of Los Angeles County, and the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments. Approved City Council February 3, 2025 2 City Council Assignments to Committees and Outside Agencies February 3, 2025 Page 2 ANALYSIS: Every year, the City Council assigns the Mayor or the Members of the Council to represent Azusa on various outside Agency Boards and Committees. Some appointments require a resolution designating a City Council representative. Additionally, certain agencies require that the Mayor serve as a delegate to a board or committee. The roster of appointments attached for the period covering February 2025 through February 2026 was confirmed by the City Council at its last meeting. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with the recommended actions.
