The City Council of the City of Azusa met in regular session in the Civic Auditorium at the above time and date. Mayor Moses called the meeting to order and led in the salute to the Flag. PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: CRUZ, LATTA, MOSES ABSENT : COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ALSO PRESENT Acting City Attorney Thorson, Interim City Administrator/ Chief of Police Wood, Community Development/Planning Director Cunningham, Civil Engineering Associate Diaz, City Clerk Solis, Deputy City Clerk Lara. Councilman Latta offered a resolution, which the City Clerk read in full, entitled: A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE FACT OF THE SPECIAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD IN THE CITY ON DECEMBER 20, 1983, DECLARING THE RESULT AND SUCH OTHER MATTERS AS PROVIDED BY THE PROVISIONS OF LAW. Moved by Councilman Latta, seconded by Councilman Cruz that resolution be adopted. Resolution passed and adopted by the following vote of the Council: AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: CRUZ, LATTA, MOSES NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE As a matter of record, the Resolution declaring the results of the Special Municipal Election is incorporated in the Minutes. 9'7 Call to Order Roll Call Res. #7388 Canvass of election rslts CITY OF AZUS,A MINUTES OF THE CITY`.COUNCIL ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING DECEMBER 27, 1983 - 7:55 P.M. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned egular session in the Civic Auditorium at the above ime and date. ayor Moses called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: CRUZ, COOK, CAMARENA, LATTA, MOSES ABSENT : COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ALSO PRESENT Acting City Attorney Thorson, Interim City Administrator/ Chief of Police Wood, Community Development/Planning Director Cunningham, Civil Engineering Associate Diaz, City Clerk Solis, Deputy City Clerk Lara. The gavel was turned over to Councilman Latta, senior member of the Council, due to the fact that Mayor Moses and Mayor Pro -tem Cruz left the Council table and are on record as abstaining from action taken on Certificate of Compliance, Relco Development Corporation, due to a possible conflict of interest. Moved by Councilman Cook, seconded by Councilman Camarena nd unanimously carried -by roll call to approve the ertificate of Compliance, Relco Development Corporation. ayor Moses and Mayor Pro -tem Cruz abstaining. Mayor Moses and Mayor Pro -tem Cruz returned to the Council table. Moved by Councilman Cruz, seconded by Councilman Latta and carried by roll call to appoint David Santellan to the Parks and Recreation Commission to fill vacancy created by election of Councilman Camarena. Moved by Councilman Latta, seconded by Mayor Moses and Suggst P1ngComm carried by roll call to "strongly suggest" to the hold Pub.Hrg. Planning Commission that they hold their Public Hearing re: churches in with regard to churches in the M-1 zone in January, rather M-1 zone in than February. Councilman Cruz voting no. January. Moved by Councilman Latta, seconded by Councilman Cruz and unanimously carried by roll call that City Attorney be directed to summarize Ordinances for publication, rather than publishing entire Ordinances as is the t stom now. ved by Councilman Camarena, seconded by Mayor Moses and unanimously carried by roll call that report be prepared disclosing costs to hire a consultant to study computer needs of the City. Moved by Councilman Latta, seconded by Councilman Camarena and unanimously carried to adjourn. Time of Adjournment: 8:05 P.M. CITY CLERK NEXT RESOLUTION NO. 7389 NEXT ORDINANCE NO. 2203 Cty Atty to summarize Ords for publication Rpt on costs for consultnt re: computer system Adjourn RESOLUTION NO. 7388 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, RECITING THE WHEREAS, a Special Municipal Election was held and conducted in the City of Azusa,California, on Tuesday, December 20, 1983, as required by law; and 11HEREAS, notice of the election was duly and regularly given in time, form and manner as provided by law; that voting precincts were properly established; that election officers were appointed and that in all respects the election was held and conducted and the votes were cast, received and canvassed and the returns made and declared in time, form and manner as required by the provisions of the Elections Code of the State of California for the holding of elections in cities; and WHEREAS, pursuant to Resolution No. 7371 adopted November 21, 1983, the City Clerk of the City canvassed the returns of the election and has certified the results to this City Council, the results are received, attached and made a part hereof as"Exhibit A". NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF AZUSA, CALIFORNIA, DOES RESOLVE, DECLARE, DETEPU4INE AND ORDER AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the whole number of votes cast in the City except absent voter ballots was 1,577. That the whole number of absent voter ballots cast in the City was 35, making a total of 1,612 votes cast in the City. SECTION 2. That the names of persons voted for Member of the City Council of the City, term ending April 10,1984 are as follows: Joseph A. Beaulieu Alan B. Anderson James G. Pride Jim Cook That the names of persons voted for at the election for Member of the City Council of the City ending April 8, 1986 are as follows: William Acker William A. "Bill" Taylor Armando "Shorty" Camarena Ross Clark Arthur B. Morales SECTION 3. That the number of votes given, at each precinct and the number of votes given in the City to each of such persons above named for the respective offices for which the persons were candidates were as listed in Exhibit "A" attached. SECTION 4. SECTION 6. That the City Clerk shall certify to the passage and adoption of this Resolution; shall enter the same in the book of original Resolutions of said City; and shall make a minute of passage and adoption thereof in the records of the proceedings of the City Council of said City, in the minutes of the meeting atwhich the same is passed and adopted. 1983. Councilman Cook made the following statement: Stment by Cncl Cook "I would just like to thank.the citizens of Azusa for electing me to this position, and I will truly and faithfully perform my duties as a Councilman for the City of Azusa. Thank you." Councilman Camarena made the following statement: Stment by Cncl Camarena "As I've said before, I would like to thank all of you who voted for me and helped me in this election. Especially to my wife, Jean, who has always helped me and encouraged me. We now begin a new era here in Azusa with a new City Council dedicated to progressive growth and finally redevelopment and beautification of the downtown business district, which is our first priority. In the coming months, I will propose new programs for the benefit of the people here in Azusa. In closing, you the people, have elected me to serve you for two years and I will endeavor to do my best to do just that. Thank you."
