CITY OF AZUSA
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
OF THE AZUSA UTILITY BOARD
MONDAY, APRIL 24, 2023– 6:30 P.M.

The Utility Board of the City of Azusa met in regular session, at the above date and time, in the Azusa Light & Water
Building 1st Floor Conference Room located at 729 N. Azusa Avenue, Azusa, California.
Chairperson Andrew N. Mendez called the meeting to order at 6:30 P.M.
ROLL CALL: Roll call was taken by Secretary Cornejo.

The pledge to the flag was led by Board Member Jesse Avila, Jr.

General Manager Singh reported that Azusa Light & Water received the Customer Service - Excellence in Public Power
Communications Award from the American Public Power Association and was also recognized for Exceptional Print and
Digital Program Marking.

questions.

F. STAFF REPORTS/COMMUNICATIONS
1. Annual SB 1037 Report.
Environmental Programs Manager Paul Reid provided a summary of the Annual Report and answered related
questions.
Item was received and filed.
G. VERBAL COMMUNICATIONS
1. Power Supply Update
Assistant Director Power Resources Richard Torres reported that renewable output through March 2023 generation
was 14% Solar, 9% Wind and 0.04% Hydro. The Target for the year is 41.3%. The Mesa Wind update included the
deliveries have been completed to 6 of 8 turbine sites, Six sites have the first 2 of 4 tower sections installed and

installations performed as wind conditions permit. Mr. Torres indicated the Mesa site visit is still on schedule for
May 3, 2023.
2. Water Supply Update
Assistant General Manager Melissa Barbosa reported 0.76” of rain fell in April for a total of 38.97 inches for the
season. Local Ground Water Elevation at Key Well as of April 21, 2023, is 221.4 feet which was a 22.6 foot rise
from March which indicates they are capturing local ground water run-off. The Water Division provided
Community Outreach at Slauson Middle School on April 18, 2023, presented to GATE after school students on
water engineering, the sources of Azusa water, water conservation, water quality, and how ALW keeps water supply
safe. Cal Poly Pomona Senior Project students presented to the Water Division at the treatment plant and ALW
gave a tour to the Cal Poly Students on April 24, 2023.
The State has released information stating the State Water Project’s allocation is at 100%.
Azusa Light & Water staff answered Board Member questions.
