CITY COUNCIL RECESSED FOR TEN MINUTES AT 7:40 P -.M.
(Recess was called in order to afford Judge Robert
O. Young time to arrive at meeting to administer
the Oath of Office to newly elected members.)
CITY COUNCIL RECONVENED AT 7:50 P.M.
_ Flowers were presented to all elected officials and
'staff from Dr. Clarence E. Brown, in the spirit of
unity.
In the absence of Judge Young, Deputy City Clerk Lara
administered the Oath of Office to City Clerk Adolph
A. Solis.
City Clerk Solis administered the Oath of Office to
the following:
Eugene F. Moses, Mayor
Lucio D. Cruz, Councilman
James Cook, Councilman
Robert E. Talley, City Treasurer
Mayor Moses made the following statement:
"I would like to thank the citizens of Azusa for their
vote of confidence, also, I think, what I'm about to
say is probably the most important thing we're going to
say all year, that I am. I'm asking our fellow council -
members to unite and work together for the betterment of
Azusa, all of us. I think it's very important that we
get off to a good start. As a unit, such as, Dr. Brown
sent these flowers, I'd like then to represent something
good for our city, that we can work together as human
beings and do the right thing amongst each other."
Councilman Cruz made the following statement:
"I would like to thank the voters of Azusa for their vote
of confidence. My slogan in the past election was for
unity and progress. The unity: the Council has to unite,
City Government has to unite, our citizens of Azusa,
• the business community, commercial people, they all have
to unite, in order for this City to progress and always
work together. We can all progress, the City can progress,
if everybody makes the effort. The City can't do it all
for the entire City. The residents have to come in and
give us a hand, commercial people, businesses, that's
the only way we can beautify and better our community.
My next four years, I'll be looking for progress, and the
only way it will come about, will be withyour cooperation.
Thank you."
Councilman Cook made the following statement:
"I would like to thank the voters of Azusa for electing
me to this office. I'm looking forward to serving you
'during the next four years. And, I hope to see the progress
in Azusa continue as it has begun, and I hope to see the
Council work together as a unit to achieve the goals that
we have set. Thank you again."
City Treasurer Talley made the following statement:
"Thank you. I didn't plan to speak. I would like tb thank
the people of Azusa for the honor they have bestowed upon
me. I'm pleased to be able to serve you in the next four
years. I trust that it will be a fruitful four years, one
that's filled with cooperation and achievement. Thank you."
