Approval of Blanket Purchase Order Increase for Veolia Environmental ServicesCONSENT CALENDAR F-2 TO: HONORABLE CHAIRPERSON AND MEMBERS OF THE AZUSA UTILITY BOARD FROM: TIKAN SINGH, GENERAL MANAGER DATE: MARCH 24, 2025 SUBJECT: APPROVAL OF BLANKET PURCHASE ORDER INCREASE FOR VEOLIA ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES BACKGROUND: In accordance with Sec. 2-518 (a) of the Azusa Municipal Code, purchase orders over $50,000 require Board approval. The City of Azusa has a Blanket Purchase Order with Veolia Environmental Services for the collection and disposal of household hazardous waste and electronic waste events held in the City of Azusa. Staff are requesting approval to increase the Blanket Purchase Order from $60,000 to $100,000 for FY 2024-2025. RECOMMENDATION: Staff recommends the Utility Board take the following action: 1) Approve an increase in Veolia Environmental Services Blanket Purchase Order from $60,000 to $100,000 for FY 2024-2025. ANALYSIS: Household hazardous waste and electronic waste need special handling and disposal. Disposing of these wastes in recycling, trash or organic containers is illegal and can pose health/safety risks. The City of Azusa holds two events a year to help Azusa residents dispose of their hazardous waste safely. The events are held at the Veolia facility on 107 Motor Avenue in April and November. Due to the significant increase in costs of disposing of hazardous waste and electronic waste, Staff recommends increasing the Blanket Purchase Order of $60,000 to $100,000 to cover additional expenses towards the end of FY 2024-2025. No budget amendment is requested at this time. FISCAL IMPACT: There is no fiscal impact associated with this action. A sufficient budget is currently available in the Solid Waste account to cover the costs of hazardous waste disposal in FY 2024-2025.
