The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned regular session at the above date and time in the Civic Auditorium. 1 Mayor Moses called the meeting to order and led in the Call to order salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: ABSENT : COUNCILMEMBERS: ALSO PRESENT STEMRICH, NARANJO, LATTA, MOSES AVILA City Administrator Fuentes, Deputy City Clerk Lara. It was consensus of Council to delay the start of the interviews for various Boards and Commissions until Councilwoman Avila arrived. COUNCILWOMAN AVILA ENTERED THE MEETING AT 7:05 P.M. The purpose of the meeting was to interview applicants for the various Boards and Commissions. - Roll Call Avila absent Also Present Mtg deferred for arrvl of Avila Avila entrd mtg Interviews Bds & Comms. Two positions were available in the Cultural and Historical Intrvws Landmark Commission. The following were interviewed: Cult & Hist. Landmark Comm Ellen Dyer, Allen Soper and Antonio Ramirez. One position was available in the Library Commission. Alice Intrvws Williams was interviewed. Mr. Allen Soper was also listed Library Comm as an applicant, but was not interviewed at this time. one position was available in the Parks and Recreation Intrvws commission. The following were interviewed: Pk & Rec Comm Todd Baker, Don Flowers, Harry Hoke, and Allen Soper. Mr. James Pride was not in attendance to be interviewed. One position was available in the Personnel Board. The following were interviewed: Todd Baker, Don Flowers, Lurece Hunter and Allen Soper. Mr. Art Morales was not in attendance to be interviewed. Two positions were available in the Planning Commission. The following were interviewed: Todd Baker, Don Flowers, Mary Grosvenor, Lurece Hunter, Howard Kennedy, Jessie Rivera O'Shea, Allen Soper and Victor Subia. Mr. Ben Carpio, Mr. Art Morales and Mr. James Pride were not in attendance to be intervied. Mr. Eric Olson withdrew his application, due to illness in the family. Intrvws Pers. Bd Intrvws Ping Comm Mrs. Grosvenor was also interviewed for the Library Commission at this time, as she stated that she had also applied for that Commission. Due to some applicants applying for more than one Board or Commission, Council requested their priorities in serving. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Latta and unanimously carried by roll call to reappoint Tony Ramirez ,to the Cultural and Historical Landmark Commission. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilwoman Avila and unanimously carried by roll call to appoint Allen Soper to the Cultural and Historical Landmark Commission. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Naranjo and unanimously carried by roll call to reappoint Alice Williams to the Library Commission. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Stemrich and unanimously carried by roll call to reappoint Harry Hoke to the Parks and Recreation Commission. O'Shea unanimously carried by roll call to reappoint Jessie Rivera Ping Comm O'Shea to the Planning Commission. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Naranjo and V. Subia unanimously carried by roll call to appoint Victor Subia to Ping Comm the Planning Commission, for the term expiring June 30, 1989. Subia Moved by Councilman Stemrich, seconded by Councilwoman Avila to waive furthe reading and adopt. Their applications would be kept on all for file for a period of six months and if vacancies occurred, interest they would be notified; further, the creation of possibly in City two new committees/commissions was in the planning stages, and thus, might also be contacted for those positions. OTHER BUSINESS/CITY COUNCIL Oth Bus/Cncl Agenda item dealing with reconsideration of Council Item re: Cncl Committee assignments to various commissions and assignments associations was removed from the Agenda at this time. removed i PUBLIC PARTICIPATION Pub Prtc. Mr. Ed Trujillo addressed the Council stating that he was an Ed Trujillo upholsterer in the City and had to leave his previous place of business because the building was demolished. He subsequently relocated to a building on San Gabriel Avenue in February of this year and when he applied for his business license was advised that the building was not zoned for his specific use and he would have to relocate. He requested Council assistance, as he had expended quite a large amount of money for advertising, etc. He was advised that since this item had not appeared on the Agenda, no action could be taken. He was advised to place the matter on a subsequent Agenda for action. Ms. Anne Jones addressed the Council stating that Council A. Jones should consider newcomers to the City for appointment to Boards and Commissions, as length of time in the City did not necessarily qualify persons for appointment.
