HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - June 26, 1989 - CCCITY OF AZUSA MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING JUNE 26, 1989 - 7:00 P.M. the City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned regular session at the above date and time in the Senior Citizen Center. Mayor Moses called the meeting to order and led in the Call to order salute to the Flag. ROLL CALL Roll Call PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: AVILA, STEMRICH, LATTA, MOSES ABSENT : COUNCILMEMBERS: NARANJO Moved by Councilman Stemrich, seconded by Mayor Moses and Naranjo unanimously carried by roll call* to excuse Councilman excused Naranjo from the meeting ALSO PRESENT Also Present City Administrator Fuentes, Deputy City Clerk Lara. The purpose of the meeting was to interview applicants for Interviews the various Boards and Commissions. Bds & Comms. Two positions were available in the Cultural and Historical Intrvws Landmark Commission. The following were interviewed: Cult & Hist. Landmark Comm Murray Hirota, Dixon A. James, Bill Molina, Jr., Patricia G. Ripley and Edith Russek. It was consensus of Council that staff research whether or Historical not the Council must approve historical designation for design of homes or buildings that meet the criteria for this bldgs (rpt) designation. Moved by Mayor Moses that Bill Molina, Jr. and Edith Russek Appt Molina be reappointed to the Cultural and Historical Landmark & Russek Commission. Motion died for the lack of a second. (died) Councilman Stemrich requested that an item be placed on the Agenda item July 3rd regular Council meeting dealing with limiting the req Stemrich terms of office for Board and Commission members. It was consensus of Council that staff provide Council with Attndnce rcds attendance record of all members of Boards and Commissions of Bds & Comm for the past year; check into possibility of amending the poss amndmnts ordinance dealing with Boards and Commissions as to to Ord re: automatic dismissal after a certain amount of absteeism; # of membrs & umber to be ascertained; and further, to report on the absenteeism feasibility of increasing the number of positions on Boards nd Commissions. No appointments were made to the Cultural and Historical Landmark Commission at this time, pending review of attendance records. Two positions were available in the i Library Commission. Appts dfrd Lib Comm Intrvws Mr. John Rodriguez was not able to attend the interviews as J. Rodriquez he was on vacation. Since.another position has become vacation to vacant in the Cultural and Historical Landmark Commission, be intrvwd by the resignation of Jessie Coffer, Mr. Rodriguez will be later interviewed at the time set for the aforementioned vacancy in the other Commission. Since Mrs. Agabra was the only aplicant for one of the positions in the Library Commission she was not interviewed. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Latta and unanimously carried by roll call* to approve the reappointment of Rosemary Agabra to the Library Commission. One position was available in the Personnel Board. Since Mr. Robert Dunn was the only applicant for the position in the Personnel Board, he was not interviewed. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Stemrich and unanimously carried by roll call* to approve the reappointment of Robert Dunn to the Personnel Board. Two positions were available in the Planning Commission. The following were interviewed: Dixon A. James, Lyle Moritz, James P. Ripley, Victor J. Subia and Yolanda Trejo. Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Stemrich and unanimously carried by roll call* to approve the reappointments of Lyle Moritz and Victor Subia to the Planning Commission. R. Subia re- apptnd to Ping Comm All applicants were thanked for their participation and Thanks to advised that even though they were not considered at this applicants ime, that they continue to be involved in their community nd to apply again, when there are future vacancies and resignations. Councilwoman Avila discussed the possibility of formulating Poss use of a rating sheet for applicants being interviewed and it was rating sheet consensus of Council that staff report on same. THE REDEVELOPMENT AGENCY CONVENED JOINTLY WITH THE CITY CRA convened COUNCIL AT 8:55 P.M. w/Cncl No business was transacted. No business Moved by Councilman/Director Stemrich, seconded by Adj to 6/29 Councilman/Director Latta and unanimously carried* to Az Woman's Cl adjourn the meeting to Thursday, June 29, 1989, at 6:30 P.M. at the Azusa Womanes Club.
