MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
NOVEMBER 20, 1989 - 6:30 P.M.
'The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned
regular session at the above date and time in the Azusa
Senior Citizen Center.
Mayor Moses called the meeting to order and led in the
salute to the Flag.
ROLL CALL
PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: AVILA, STEMRICH, NARANJO, LATTA,
MOSES
ABSENT COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ALSO PRESENT
City Administrator Fuentes, Deputy City Clerk Lara.
The purpose of the meeting was to interview applicants for
the vacancy in the Planning Commission.
Councilman Stemrich advised that he would be abstaining from
interviewing applicants for the vacancy in the Planning
'Commission for personal reasons.
Councilwoman Avila advised all applicants that there were
also two positions open in the Parks and Recreation
Commission and one position in the Cultural and Historical
Landmark Commission, and asked if any of the applicants were
interested in those commissions as well.
Councilman Latta questioned the legality of this, as he
stated that if they were indeed interested in these other
commissions, they would have stated so on their application.
Since this point had not been addressed before, Deputy City
Clerk advised that she would research and report on this
matter. In the meantime, applicants advised of their
preferences for various commissions.
The following applicants were then interviewed:
Oscar Zamora
Richard M. Montes
Candelario Lopez
Susie R. Galletta
Stephen Alexander
Yolanda Trejo and James Ripley had been interviewed prior to
his meeting, but were re -interviewed at this time.
ouncilman Stemrich returned to the Council table to
participate in the appointment procedures.
Moved by Mayor Moses that Yolanda Trejo be appointed to the
Planning Commission. Motion died for the lack of a second.
Moved by Mayor Moses that Oscar Zamora be appointed to the
Planning Commission. Motion died for the lack of a second.

Moved by Mayor Moses that Candelario Lopez be appointed to
the Planning Commission. Motion died for the lack of a
second.
Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilwoman Avila and
carried by roll call that James Ripley be appointed to the
Planning Commission. Councilman Latta dissenting.
Councilwoman Avila then offered a resolution entitled:

to waive further reading and adopt. Resolution passed and
adopted by the following vote of the Council:

Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Latta and R. Montes
unanimously carried by roll call that Richard M. Montes be to Pks&Rec
appointed to the Parks and Recreation Commission. Comm
Councilwoman Avila offered a resolution entitled:

APPOINTING RICHARD M. MONTES TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION
COMMISSION.
Moved by Councilwoman Avila, seconded by Councilman Naranjo
to waive further reading and adopt. Resolution passed and
adopted by the following vote of the Council:

MOSES
NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
Moved by Mayor Moses, seconded by Councilman Latta and
unanimously carried by roll call to appoint Candelario Lopez
to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Councilwoman Avila offered a resolution entitled:

APPOINTING CANDELARIO LOPEZ TO THE PARKS AND RECREATION
COMMISSION.
Moved by Councilwoman Avila, seconded by Councilman Naranjo
to waive further reading and adopt. Resolution passed and
adopted by the following vote of the Council:
