The City Council of the City of Azusa met in Special session at the above date and time in the Civic Auditorium. Mayor Alexander called the meeting to order. PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARDISON, MADRID, BEEBE, ALEXANDER ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NARANJO City Administrator Garcia, Deputy City Clerk Toscano. Call to Order Roll Call Also Present The purpose of the Special Meeting was discussion/authorization allowing the Purpose of Mayor to travel to Washington D.C. on Monday, June 3, 1996, and Mtg. appropriating $1,800.00 for travel, for the purpose of lobbying the Federal Transportation Committee concerning the extension of the 710 Freeway. Pursuant to Government Code Section 54956, the "Notice of Special Meeting" was delivered to each Councilmember, on the date and time set forth in the following: S. ALEXANDER T. NARANJO C. MADRID D. HERNANDEZ The City Clerk further certifies that the following news media were also notified of the Special Meeting: San Gabriel Valley Tribune/Herald Los Angeles Times Charter Communications Cable TV Certification of Special Meeting Notice/Cncl/ Media Pub Part Mr. Art Morales addressed the issue in favor of sending a member of the City A. Morales Council or staff to Washington D.C. to lobby for the extension of the 710 comments freeway. Mr. Ted Garcia addressed the issue in favor of sending someone to Washington T. Garcia D.C. to lobby for the extension of the 710 freeway. comments 1 1 Mayor Alexander addressed the issue stating that the 710 freeway, that is not Alexander completed, has a major impact on the 10 and 60 freeways and there is a coalition comments of cities trying to extend the freeway for which the City's has expressed its view in favor of the extension. He detailed the events leading up to the request to travel to Washington D.C. to lobby in favor of the extension. Discussion was held among Councilmembers regarding any opposition there is Discussion to the extension, the City's position on the extension, cost of the trip to Washington D.C. , areas that will be affected and alternatives to the extension. Moved by Mayor Alexander, seconded by Councilmember Madrid to authorize Motion to Mayor Alexander to travel to Washington D.C. on Monday, June 3, 1996, and authorize appropriate $1,800 for travel, for the purpose of lobbying the Federal travel to Transportation Committee concerning the extension of the 710 Freeway. Washington Motion failed by the following vote of the Council: D.C. (Failed) AYES: COUNCILMEMBERS: MADRID, ALEXANDER NOES: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARDISON, BEEBE ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NARANJO Moved by Councilmember Beebe, seconded by Councilmember Hardison and Adjourn unanimously* carried by roll call to adjourn.
