The City Council of the City of Azusa met in adjourned regular session at the above date and time in the Library Auditorium. Mayor Alexander called the meeting to order. Call to Order ROLL -CALL Roll Call PRESENT: COUNCILMEMI3ERS: IIARDISON, BEEBI, ALEXANDER ABSENT: COUNCIL,MEMBERS: MADRID, NARANJO ALSO PRESENT: Also Present CifyAdministratorOarcia, Administrative Analyst Dadaian, Community Development Director Bruckner, Interim Redevelopment Director Steel, Deputy City Clerk Toscano, the following members of the Cultural and Historical Lnndmark Commission: Alva, Illava, Oarcia, Williams and Ilirola. Moved by Councihnember Hardison, seconded by Councilnteniber Beebe and Madrid/Ilardison Unanimously* carried by roll call that Council members Madrid and Naranjo be excused excused from the meeling. Ed Hlnvn, member of the Cttllural and Ilislorical Lnndmnrk Commission introduced E. Illava Ms. Cherilyn Widell, Slate Ilistoric Preservation Officer, providing a brief history of comments her background. Ms. Cherilyn Widell, Slnte Ilistoric Preservation Officer, addressed Council detailing how historic preservation, and nvnilahle programs, could he used As a tool for economic development strategy, staling that it could create jobs, Ibrnt new businesses, create private investment, tourism, incrense property value, create compatible land use patterns, provide efficient use of mass transit services, incrense property sales tax, and tax credits. She then presented slides showing several historic buildings, pointing out their historic significance, how they enrich the areas in which they are located, further noting the advantages of having a historic site. Discussion was held between Council, Mr I Ilava And Ms. Widell, regarding several areas in Azusa that may he considered for historic preservation As well As other options available and literature regarding historic preservation. Addilional discussion was held regarding feasibility, cost, criteria, And process of identifying and evaluation properties And proposed ordinance regarding historic preservation. C.
