MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
ADJOURNED MEETING
MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, 1998 -6:30 P.M.
'The City Council of the City of Azusa met in Adjourned regular session at the above date
and time in the Civic Auditorium.
Mayor Madrid called the meeting to order.

PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARDISON, STANFORD, ROCHA, BEEBE,
MADRID
ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE
ALSO PRESENT:
City Attorney Carvalho, City Manager Cole, Chief of Police Broderick, Deputy City Clerk
Toscano.
Lengthy discussion was held between Councilmembers and staff regarding the many
problems/illegal activities that exist on Gladstone Street and Pasadena Avenue by the Day
Laborers. Some of the problems that exist are, but not limited to, the following: urinating
in public, harassment of students going to and from Center Middle School, rocks being
tossed into yards along Pasadena Avenue and property values declining. Discussion was
held regarding the need to cement loose rocks; two brick masonry persons have expressed
willingness to donate services to re -cement the loose rocksibricks, and there is a possibility
of cement being donated for the project. It was suggested that meetings be held with
residents and Day Laborers.

Discussion
Chief of Police Broderick provided comments on the situation from the policing stand point COP
on the issue, stating that they will do everything allowable by law to try and alleviate the comments
problems.
After additional comments, it was consensus of Councilmembers that two separate meetings
be scheduled between Councilmembers, school personnel, and residents in the area, and
Councilmembers and Day Laborers. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled between
Councilmembers, school personnel, and residents on Saturday, November 21, 1998, at Center
Middle School, at 11:00 am. The second meeting is tentatively scheduled between
Councilmembers, school personnel, and Day Laborers, on Sunday, November 29, 1998, at
Gladstone Park, at 2:00 p.m.
It was consensus of Council to adjourn.
