MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL
AND THE PLANNING COMMISSION
ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING
MONDAY, JULY 24, 2000 - P.M.
' The City Council of the City of Azusa and the Planning Commission, met in
adjourned regular session, at the above date and time in the Light and Water
Conference Room, located at 729 N. Azusa, Avenue, Azusa California.
Mayor Madrid called the meeting to order.

City Manager Cole, addressed Council and Commissioners explaining the
purpose of this meeting. The goal was to give an update on what has been
accomplished on the first stage of the General Plan efforts and to engage Council
and Commissioners on what is being planned for the next stage.
General Plan Project Manager Brownfield, addressed Council and Commissioners
giving them an update of the process on the General Plan. She explained how
they are working on informing people and making them part of this project. The
public participation and outreach has included events such as: Future Fiesta,
Town Hall Citizens' Congress & General Plan Information Center, and has met
with: church groups, business, residents, property owners, workers and students,
in an effort to not only inform, but to invite them to participate as well and share
their ideas and concerns. Meetings and workshops were also held in Spanish in
order to reach the Spanish speaking community. She then showed a short video
presentation of the first Citizens' Congress held in May at which Henry Cisneros
President and Chief Operating Officer of Univision communications attended.

' City Manager Cole and Public Information Officer Quiroz, addressed Council and R. Cole &
Commissioners giving them highlights of the Citizens' Congress Executive M. Quiroz
Summary that was presented to them. As part of the May Citizens' Congress, the update Gen
Town Hall Meetings and a series of workshops comments from participants were Plan
gathered, which addressed the City's identity, community image, home
ownership, values, housing options, recreational elements, education, public
safety, business attraction, transportation and how Azusa prospers.
Discussion was held among Councilmembers, Commissioners and staff regarding Discussion
the language of the two resolutions, City Council and Planning Commission, resolutions
being presented for adoption. It was agreed that there was some language that
needed to be reworded and items added. Resolutions were reviewed and staff was
directed to make changes and additions.

After a discussion held among Councilmembers and Staff regarding appointing committee
a Community Committee for the recruitment process of Police Chief, the recruitment
following were selected:
