HomeMy WebLinkAboutMinutes - September 11, 2000 - CCCITY OF AZUSA MINUTES OF THE CITY COUNCIL SPECIAL/ADJOURNED REGULAR MEETING MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2000 -6:30 P.M. The City Council of the City of Azusa met in Special/Adjourned session, at the above date and time in the Light and Water Department, located at 729 North Azusa Avenue, Azusa, California. ' Mayor Madrid called the meeting to order. ROLL CALL PRESENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: HARDISON, STANFORD, BEEBE, ROCHA, MADRID ABSENT: COUNCILMEMBERS: NONE ALSO PRESENT: City Manager Cole, Utilities Director Hsu, Assistant Director for Resource Management Tang, Deputy City Clerk Toscano, Mr. Kenneth J. Mellor, and various employees of the Utilities Department. Moved by Councilmember Stanford, seconded by Councilmember Beebe and unanimously carried by roll call to waive formal bidding procedures and award professional services contract, for Environmental Documentation for a proposed Electric Substation, to two consulting firms, as follows: Black & Veatch Corporation in an amount not to exceed $30,400.00, and Willdan Inc. in an amount not to exceed $25,982.00. Call to Order Roll Call Also Present Professional Svs Environmental Documentation Prop. Electric Substation Workshop on Utilities Strategic Mission - Mr. Kenneth J. Mellor of R.W. Beck provided Utilities an update on the power crisis in California, impact of deregulation, specifically in San Diego, Strategic where customers were faced with large utility bills. Mission Assistant Director for Resource Management Tang presented facts on the Current State of B. Tang Deregulation in California, California Power Exchange Price Comparisons, Causes of Recent comments Price Spikes, and summarized the California deregulation "mess", and the uncertainty of the future of deregulation. Lastly, he detailed the State ofAzusa's Power Resource Picture Price Hedging Strategies. It was consensus of Councilmembers to adjourn. TIME OF ADJOURNMENT: 9:10 P.M.
