4. Commission Discussion of 2012 HAAZ Event
Claudia shared the video that Commissioner Helen Jaramillo made of the
flash mob event at HAAZ.
In future the City will handle the financial transactions for the performers. On
the day of the event, no payments will be made to the performers.
Hopefully, we can find a way to make the presentation of the certificates a
little more entertaining.
Scott Bledsoe shared an article on the event in APU's campus newspaper.
Helen Jaramillo suggested possibly having a DJ rather than a live band next
year to appeal to a younger crowd.
Encouraging people to be in the center area while the event is happening
might help involving crowd more.
5. Creation of Fundraising committee
a. The Commission would like to involve more community members in the
committee. Also, APU has a class that has a grant writing project.
DonorsChoose.org might be another funding source.
Sponsoring individual kids for participation might be a good way to market
some of the expenses. Meal donation from APU students out of extra meal
card points is another possibility.
Helen, LaLisa, Scott, and Joanne will serve on the committee. Helen will
chair the committee. Staff will help in scheduling and being present at the
meetings. DoodlePolls will be used to schedule meetings.
LaLisa motions that Helen Jaramillo, LaLisa Morgan, Joanne Hinojosa, and
Scott Bledsoe be appointed to the Fundraising Committee.
Claudia will find out if the Brown Act will allow 4 Commission members at the
meetings.
